filling water tank

I have a 02 Jayco 26ss. Seams like I never have enough water after a few days. I add what I think is enough. I checked the water tank level indicator light, and it shows I have enough water. I don't know if the water tank level indicator in the water tank is operating correctly or not. I know my waste tank level indicator is not correct. We are very careful with usage. For fear of rupturing my plastic water tank seams like I never put in enough water. I was thinking of purchasing a water meter so I will know just how many gallons I put in my tank. Does anyone have a better idea filling water tanks where a hose is attached with full house line pressure? Thanks Stan

Stan, you should have an overflow on the fresh water tank. When water starts to come out of the overflow, you are full.

Give the overflow a few seconds to drain too.

Fill a 5 gallon bucket with water from your hose and make note of the time it takes. Use a little math to figure out how long it will take to fill your TT tank to capacity. Or just fill it till it overflows. I never heard of a tank rupturing before, but I guess it's possible.

When a full tank isn't enough, I carry a 6 gal water can to top off the tank. Refill the can when ever we are driving around the CG or park and come upon a faucet. On a couple occasions [1 when I got set up before realizing my site didn't have water and my tank was only 1/4 full] I used a couple large coolers to carry water to the TT and then a funnel and 2 qt drink container to transfer it to the tank. Just be creative and don't get set up before fillin up.

I tried the bucket filling thing. It took longer to fill my tank because it was going through a 1/2 inch line. So it took a lot longer to fill my tank. If it took a minute to fill a five gal bucket, when a minute only filled my water tank with one gal. It took me a couple trips to figure that out. Stan

Just let it fill slowly. It may take a few extra minutes but it won't be backing up in the fill tube giving you the false idea that it is full.
