First "black tank" mishap
Went camping at Maryhill State Park on the Columbia river a couple weeks back when WA state was having it's record breaking heat wave. I swam in the river for about 10 hours total over 2.5 days. The day before we were scheduled to leave I decided to shed some weight and empty the black tank... Always done it this way...
I get the hose out and prepare to hook it up to the trailer. As I pull the cap off I got an immediate flow of poo/pee/tp/etc. all over my hands and feet.  Someone had pulled the black tank valve while we were out swimming! Normally I have a strong stomach but I'd been drinking a bit that day and as soon as the smell hit me, I started to hurl all over. It really killed my buzz and the trust of the other campers around me. Why the heck would someone do this? LOL! I am a happy guy and always say hi, mind my own business but also help out if I see someone that needs it. This is how Karma pays me back?
Anyways, lesson learned to always check the valves before removing the cap now...

I had my first spill the other day. I attached -- or thought I had attached -- the hose tightly. Not tight enough.
I was able to shut the valve quickly but not fast enough. Fortunately I was alone at the dump, no one waiting behind me and no one saw my faux-paus.
It took me about 15 minutes of hosing with the sprayer before I was convinced it was clean enough to leave.
Lesson learned - make sure the hose is on tight.

Been there, done that (not the drinking part). Not so funny at the time it is happening but trust me you will look back on it some day and laugh, especially when you tell others. It's one of life's camping experiences.

Been there too. Dumping after a Garmin mishap that lead to a washboard dirt road. Valve was a little weak as well. I bought a clear gate valve as soon I got home. Should be SOP to buy one along with hoses, surge protectors etc.

We use a clear cap on the discharge so we can see if anything's on the inside before I take it off. The downside is the plastic is very hard, and sometimes difficult to twist off by hand. We've had one of the locking ears snap off after a couple of years use, that's why I keep the original one as a spare, and put plumber's grease on the seal.

There are two pretty common "practical jokes" that I've seen played at campgrounds over the years. One is messing with the tank valves. The other is folding up entry steps while people are sleeping. The first one is annoying and disgusting. The second is downright dangerous. I always look down to confirm the steps are still out before I step out in the morning.

The clear cap is fine but it only lets you know when your line is full then what

Pretty much the same outcome, but without the surprise. I put a 5 gallon bucket under the pipe, and carefully open it up.

If you see anything thru the clear cap, a valve check would be the next step.

Another downright dangerous and expensive prank is sliding the drawbar hitch lever to disengage the fifth wheel from the truck. Happened to a bud of mine who owned a trucking outfit. Severely damaged the 53 foot freight trailer. Luckily no one was hurt.
