First long trip

Family and I are heading out tomorrow for Outer Banks. Leaving from the Adirondacks of upstate NY. Everything is packed up and ready to go for morning.
Definitely going around NYC and DC. Plan on stopping some where PA tomorrow evening the hopefully in NC on Sunday. Checking in to Cape Hatteras KOA on Monday. Hopefully the crazy weather has caused too much damage or flooding.
Anyway this is our second year owning the TT and our longest trip yet. Got back last week form 5 nights in NH. That 4 hour trip was farthest up to this point.
Wish us luck!

Welcome, and have a safe trip. When we go south from western NY, we usually stay overnight in Lickdale, PA, at the KOA. Right off I81 at exit 90.

We don’t have any reservations for Saturday or Sunday. However I was just looking at the KOAs in the Harrisburg area and everything is booked. Most likely find a parking lot to stay in. Maybe Hollywood Casino.

Have a great trip. We have been wanting to get out to C.H. for a number of years. As a kid we lived in Havelock NC, and went out to C.H. often.

DW and DS have never been there. Long trip for us and summers are to short.

Have fun!

Well we left home at 8am. 440 miles later and we are at Bass Pro in Harrisburg. A few stops for gas and bathroom breaks. Boon docking in the parking lot tonight. And back on the road tomorrow.
PS 81 South has some pretty good spots and some TERRIBLE spots !

It's been that way for decades. Always under construction, or really should be.

Safe travels!

It does get better. Penn DOT is horrible. Have a good day tomorrow down through VA.

362 miles today. 7am to 330pm. Mostly secondary roads. Made it to Wilson NC. Only about a 4hour day tomorrow to Cape Hatteras. Need to make an adjustment on my wdh before pulling out tomorrow. Too much chucking for me. I’ll try adding a washer to angle the head a touch more.
So far so good !

Safe travels. I hope you left early enough to get through NYC before the rush in the morning.

Short day of driving today 173 miles. Made it to Cape Hatteras KOA about 1230. Beautiful place , ocean and beach are awesome. Kids are having a ball.
975 miles total from home. Truck did great and trailer towed excellent. Heading out from here on Friday for home.

Nice! We just had a trip that was only 460ish miles from home. Longest trip to date for us. The TV is definitely under powered, but it doesn't have any tow package, so probably explains the lack. But it did make it, so I trust it can do it again sometime.

Safe travels. Hope the roads are good to ya.

Well vacation is over. Packing up this morning for the long drive home. Wife and kids had a great time here in the Outer Banks. KOA is a little tight and our site wasnt real level also our sewer hook up was literally 12” from covered picnic table next door. Dumped our tanks while the neighbors were away from their site. Pool was great and of course the beach too so we would stay here again. Took my son to the Wright Brothers museum that he’s been wanting to see.
Most likely will bypass the interstates and run secondary roads up to PA then hit 81 to NY.

No KOA only 300 miles
But 130 of it over logging roads where the speed is from 5-17 mph for the most part. about a third of it good at 40 mph
Best campground! Kids love it
No planned kids activities so they make their own: ride bikes or fish or canoe or swim or go atving

We head up your way a couple of times a year, usually stay at Fort Drum the first night and then head up to Cranberry Lake, Lake Placid, and sometimes over to Lake George. beautiful country.

Sounds like your first long trip went pretty well - not easy on the east coast. For us in West Michigan once we get past Chicago going west it's wide open. A couple years ago we toured New England and spent a couple of days in your beautiful up-state New York area. It's really nice up there!

Visited Cape Hatteras once by car and a number of times by LST. We would leave port in Little Creek, Virginia and go down to Camp Lejeune to on-load Marine combat engineers. They seemed to really appreciate the ride back up past the cape in a flat-bottomed, keelless, shallow draft rough rider. Usually had some lying on the deck shoulder to shoulder with faces over the side calling out for "Ralph, Ralph O'Rourke". : )
