First season with Rainier tires

I've been reading all of the discussions about Rainier ST tires, so I thought I'd post my findings. This trailer is the first time I've heard of them, so I went into our first season of camping with the trailer having no opinion, either good or bad, about them. I also can't justify replacing them with a more well known brand, because throwing out brand new tires because they're "unknown" isn't my style.

So how did the Rainier tires do? Just fine, IMHO. No excessive or unusual wear, no bubbles or tread separation, no flats or blowouts. I figure these tires have around 1600 km (~1000 miles) that we put on them; I have no idea how many were on them before we picked the trailer up at the dealer.

Below are some photos I just took of the tires; you can see the date code of 5214 on one of them. The discoloration on one of the photos isn't from the tire, it's from the gravel road we drove down in the rain during one of our last camping trips of the year. The tread wear on the last photo is pretty typical of all of them.

I am still unsure of the tires myself. They "seem" ok, but... who knows. I do realize that regardless of what tire you buy, be it for a car, truck or trailer, they all can have issues due to manufacturing tolerances! Main reason I plan on replacing the Rainiers in the spring is to step up to an E rated tire for more reserve weight capacity, and to have a tire that is speed rated above 65mph. There again, giving more "reserve" between the speed rating of the tire and actual speed.

We will have close 800 miles or so on the tires at the end of the season from trips, about 100 miles picking the trailer up. Plus maybe 100 miles (estimate) from the factory to the dealer.

ST tires come on 2 forms (IMHO), failed and getting ready to fail.

We had 2 fail in about a 75 mile stretch and a 3rd was on its way. It's like they have timers.
I bought a pressure monitor so I could keep an eye on things and it alerted me to both failures before any damage was done (except for the shredded tires).

I'm not saying that these tires will be good in the long run -- that's still an unknown. But after a thousand miles, the tires still look good in my opinion, and I've had my share of tire woes in the lat 15 years to RVing. I don't see any point in spending $500+ on replacing them when they don't need to be replaced, but I'm still going to obsessively keep a close eye on them, and at the first hint of problems, out they go. I'm just posting my findings here and I hope others will too.

They are so new, that's why we can't find any reviews. I had several discussions with Tredit last year (they own the mold), and I wasn't convinced they'll be the next maxxis. I have well over 5000 miles on ours and they still appear ok. Date code is late 14, tread is good and wear pattern is good. I'm still going to change them out over the next year, but so far so good with ours.

We got about 3K miles on ours since April with one more camping trip yet before winterizing. No issues at all and all look very good. Will probably keep these through next season if don't see any issues...

Not all ST tires are created equal, and not all ST tires fail. Haven't had one fail in over 12 years of rv'ing. No flames, just facts.

Rainier tires were OEM on my 2015 White Hawk DSRL. It was delivered to Menifee CA. the first week of January this year. I'm guessing that is about 1500 miles from the factory so take that mileage and add roughly 1500 more to get to where we are today. I keep them aired up, covered when not in use and try hard not to exceed 65 mph with my normal cruise speed being 60-62. Wear is even and no outward signs of any problems so far.

I just got curious to see if others had this problem. I bought a new jayco 375 BHFS in June 2015. In May 2016 we took our first big trip from Oklahoma to California. Before, it has only been 20 mile trips to the lake. Well, just on the other side of Amarillo TX, a driver pulled beside me and said something looks wrong with my tire. So I pull over and sure enough, a bubble about the size of a softball was sticking out on the inside of my front tire. These tires had less than 500 miles on them and I check tire pressures every time before pulling any of my trailers anywhere. Today, 6-30-2016, I go pick my trailer up at Camperland in Tulsa after having some work done on it and on my way home, again, a driver tells me at a stoplight that my tire looks like something is stuck on it. So I pull over and again, same thing. The tires may have 5,000 miles on it at the most. I'm going tomorrow to replace them all. Not taking the chance of all the fender damage. I'm very disappointed in these tires. I did contact the place I purchased the trailer, but have not heard back from them.

Save your tires!!! They should still be under warranty and may get credit for some of them.

Then sell them if you can to recoup some of the loss.

I have about 6,000 miles on mine. Heading out later this summer for a 5,000 mile road trip. Will see how they hold up. So far, the tires look just fine.

We put 5338 miles on our Rainier tires last year and just added another 3600 on them in the last two weeks. They are still doing just fine!

When, not if, they blow there will be thousands of dollars of damage. Is it worth the risk?
