First trip out....SUCCESS!
Just returned from our first trip camping with our first TT. The "trial" run was more than a success and turned out to be waaaay more enjoyable than either the DW or I could have imagined. We decided to try dry camping at 7300' in the Arizona mountains. Borrowed my father's 2000 watt Honda genny to keep the battery charged up. Slept with the windows open at night to enjoy snuggling in the 43 degree air, which was a welcome sensation and a great departure from the 100 degree Phoenix days.
The trip can be considered a success, since our biggest issue was a new style of can opener that we couldn't figure out how to use, so I had to crack open my Corned Beef Hash with a hammer, screwdriver and pliers.
We are thankful for all the information posted on the JOF and have learned lots of advice from everyone here. Now, it's on to stock the TT with more goodies and to save up for a Yamaha Inverter/Generator that we "heard" while walking through the campground.
So blessed!

Great pics! I too have had to use primitive implements to open up cans in the past!

Haha, I love Maguyvering stuff while camping. Your corned beef hash made me laugh - we once opened a bottle of wine with a nail, vise grips and a hatchet. You do what you have to do!
Your golden is beautiful, by the way. Such a pretty color!

Glad you had a good time. I keep a swiss army knife in the camper. I too have a can opener I couldn't figure out how to use - but the can opener in the swiss army knife works like a champ!

You will learn all of the PLAN B things as you go along. The bottom line is if you make back home all in one piece then it was great success...
We always have alot of pride to be able to camp back off the trails sometimes... Brings back my younger tent camping days experiences.

Wife hates it too! Says it resembles dog food just a little too closely.

I have to say I'm with CruisinKim on the whole corned beef hash thing...I can take a lot of things but I'm not so sure I would have been overly excited to get into that can...although, I guess that depended on how hungry I was because if the opportunity presented itself and I was hungry enough I would gnaw my own arm off sometimes due to hunger!

We were at a campground called the Rock Crossing Campground, which sits at about 7300' elevation in the Ponderosa Pine forest north of Payson, AZ on the Mogollon Rim. The hookupless campground is about 2 miles north of the Blue Ridge Reservoir. Unfortunately closed now for the winter, but we will be back!

On the other hand...we were camping in the Smokies a few months ago and our dog developed severe diarrhea for a few days. We took her to a vet in Pigeon Forge on our way north. They gave her a lot of tests and some medicine and some special dog food in cans. When we opened it my wife said it reminded her of corned beef hash (which she loves). So we bought some (corned beef hash, NOT dog food) and had it for breakfast the next morning with fried eggs on top. The dog was OK after applying pills to her and $240 to my credit card. She looked kind of disappointed when she had to go back to dry dog food though!

Rockypointers,
Thanks for sharing about the campground. We like to go to Ponderosa Campground by Payson around Easter time. It is also dry camping and it works for us.

Beautiful scenary!! How long were you there and did your supply of water in your tank hold up? I always wondered if you would use up all the water stored.

kathie, we were there for 2 days...water supply held up all weekend. blck/grey tanks filled up to 2/3 though as we learned the value of washing dishes outside when possible as well as paper plates while dry camping. lessons learned.
