First Trip: Post-mortem

Here is the list of what we forgot:

Matches
Coffee Mugs (almost a disaster)
Charcoal
Axe
Paper Towels
Bath towels!
Baking Sheet (hard to make biscuits in oven without)
Knives (well my son brought his big knife but kinda hard to cook with that thing)

Things I learned and am buying on Monday:
Electric Tongue Jack - got to be easier than the hand crank
Digital Thermostat - yeah, we forgot to adjust this correctly and so a digital one has got be easier.
Clock
Fire Log - We are glamping for petes sake, so I do not have to start a fire the hard way with wood shavings etc.
Better pillows
Replacing mattress - was not horrible but can be improved.

Well that's a good start. There will be more things to buy and more things to forget. Add to your buy list a small notepad and pen to write all of these thoughts down.

Hey
You did good with that short of a list! We moved all the stuff from the old camper and our first time out with the new one is this coming weekend. I hope we have a short list too!
The DW decided on lots of new things for the new camper and I’m sure something was forgotten

My wife and I created a camping checklist. When getting ready, we print out that list and go down it and check items as they are put in the trailer.
If it's something we will not need foot that trip, we cross it out.
I can post it if anyone is interested.

I just hope that you found some way to get coffee. Nothing else would matter to me

Go to Amazon for most of that stuff, they usually have the best prices. I picked up a brand new Barker jack for $88 in the warehouse deals section, box a bit beat up but had never been open.

For buying "emergency" stuff on the road, if there's no Walmart, Bass Pro, Cabela's, REI nearby we try to get AMZN shipping to one of their lockers. Works great if there's one on your way.

Speaking of coffee, my wife LOVES this milk foamer... Even when we're not hooked up it will be used...or else...

We did up a checklist in the computer a few years back and update it as we go. NO WAY I could ever remember the dozens of things that need to be onboard!

Once we have the items in the camper, they stay there. With the purchase of a new one, we had to un-load and load. In that process came the “don’t put that and that and that back, we need new ones for our new camper”
The only items we load each time is food and medicine but check lists are good to have

not to bad!

I would recommend two baking sheets. One to back on, and one placed over the burner to deflect the heat. this is what we do or our biscuits burn on the bottom and are raw on top.

As for the campfire, I now bring a propane torch, with a small 1 pound cylinder. It works great to start campfires and the charcoal.

Happy Camping.

Oh yeah, that's a big DITTO on the checklist. We keep our's in the computer so it's easy to tweak it. And, we use it every time we do a trailer trip. I developed the list with weekend trips in mind, and figured I'd have a separate, expanded list for longer trips. Discovered that's not really necessary for us...pretty much all we do for a longer trip is pack more clothes and some laundry supplies. The list also includes a reminder to bring along things like discount cards, concert tickets, and so on.

There's also a section for prepping our house for our departure. Turn off the water, lower the thermostat, timers on the lights, turn off water heater, etc..

When we pull out of the driveway, there's very little of that 'what did we forget' feeling.

We also have two separate printed checklists for departing a campsite. A short one for prepping the interior and a longer one for prepping the exterior. We pull away from the driveway or a campsite with confidence.

We don't bother with a set-up checklist. If we forgot to hook up the water, it's going to be obvious when we turn on the tap.
