Thanks camping girl and 3'senough for your good input. We did do some price research but found that the few prices we saw we so different and then they would say for a real price call us at..... And we did not want to get into bargaining with different dealers plus there was always the "depends which options" and there was "plus dealer prep and set up" etc etc. we just really trusted that our sales person would offer us a fair price. The trailer was brought in because it was one we mentioned to the salesperson through email that interested us. When she called and said they were getting one in, we were very surprised and she said there was no obligation because they would put in their upcoming show if we did not want it. So we went, we saw, they conquered. Then we asked them to call us with some figures. When they gave us the price we were somewhat shocked and asked if that was going to be the show price which we had been told would be the case so we made a small counter offer and they came back with half of that which put us at the msrp that we later saw on the jayco site. In retrospect of course now we know that we should have gone wayyyyyy lower. Anyway as camper girl suggested and we have been thinking, we are going to call them and be up front with what we now know and hopefully we can still deal with them. Our only other course is to go south of the border or to Calgary which we would rather not have to do just because of logistics. Again thanks for all the support here on this forum. It's really good to be able to hash things out with people who know what your talking about and who have experience. We should have started out on the forum first then went trailer shopping.

Here is a link to the dealer we bought our trailer from to give you an idea of their discounted prices. Take MSRP and knock off 30%, if they aren't covering costs they will ask for more.

I bought my 2010 28BHS in October of '10, the MSRP was around $22K and I managed to get them down to $13,500 new off the lot! So the deals are out there, one just has to look and find them.

Haggle a little!!

Phar0e,

When we bought our 17Z in 2010 I did a lot of internet research on model and features that we wanted in a camper. In my state we have a 3 Jayco dealers, the nearest one 2 1/2 hours away. We went to them to look at the camper and then called the other two, the second one quoted MSRP and wouldn't budge a penny. The third one beat the first dealer by $1500.00, (the first dealer was under MSRP by $5000.00). So we called the first one on a Friday and told him that we were going to buy the camper at the other dealer, and gave him the details of their offer. He told us to give him a chance to beat that price, and he would call us back in 1/2 hour or so. Well, he called us and beat the other dealer by another $50.00. We bought from him. We ended up getting our $18,000, camper for $12,800 + TTL, just under $13,000, and I got a nice WDH thrown in also!!!

It pays to haggle....

We went to the Cleveland show last night and there are deals out there. We bought ours used, the Tech said that it had only been used 3 times. The couple traded on a big 5vr go figure. The strangest thing we saw at the show was commodes just inside the back doors???? Only thing we could think of was you wouldn't have to track through the rv to get to the potty. After looking at as many as we could we decided our trailer suited us just fine. We talked to to a factory rep from another brand, he told us we are #2. I asked who is #1 he sheepishly said JAYCO our reply was that's what we have, end of conversation.

Do you have the 19H hybrid and if so how do you find it? Is it cramped with the table and couch so close? Just wondering in case we start looking from scratch.

Thanks everyone for your input. We did work with our dealer on the price and we did fix it! We were Abel to agree on a price we were more comfortable with. Looking forward to having the 23J in our driveway in a couple of months.

Well we contacted the dealer and told them we had found some quotes that were quite a bit lower and we were not comfortable with the price we had verbally agreed on. They assured us that we could work something out and we went in to see them (an hours drive) and told them where we had gotten the quotes from and they went down a couple of thousand and we felt that it was now a better deal for the model we wanted. So a good ending for all!
