Florida to Maine 2019

We are planning a lengthy trip from central Florida to Maine during the summer/fall 2019 in our Jayco Redhawk (and flat towing a car). Two adults, one greyhound, one tabby cat. We want to avoid major metropolitan areas (DC, NY, Boston). Looking at a route through South Carolina, to Asheville, NC, through Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York. Want to see Lake Champlain area. Get a little stuck planning next steps in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine - any advice? Suggested RV parks (must be pet friendly)? Things to do/see? We have never been to this part of the country and want to maximize our experience. We are flexible with timing since we are retired - as long as we are heading south no later than end of October. THANKS!!

We stay at Bar Harbor Campground Salisbury Cove Maine. They have full hookups and pet friendly. Bar Harbor and Acadia N.P. is one to see it is beautiful we have been going there for over 25 years. we drive the coastline in Maine from Brunswick to Ellsworh you pass through some very nice coastline towns. Stop at the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and do the observation tower that is in bridge you get nice view if area. There is Mount Washington area in New Hampshire. Lake Champlain is beautiful also, we stay in Grand Isle state park and other Vermont state parks but there are no hookups.

We love the Lake Placid, NY area; touring the Olympic venues is fun with lots of activities in the area. The Ausable Chasm is close and is very cool. Then we frequently take a ferry across Lake Champlain to Vermont. Just make sure they are running the ship with enough overhead clearance for your RV! In Vermont we have stayed at the Quechee/Pine Valley KOA and toured the Quechee Gorge area.

Then to New Hampshire. I could go all day about that state! Our favorite campground is the Twin Mountain KOA. They recently added some premium sites that are roomy with great views of the surrounding White Mountains peaks (see my pic below). Easy to tour the Mt. Wahington area from there including the Cog Railroad, the Mt. Washington Auto Road, Franconia Notch with the Flume Gorge and Canon Mountain, Pinkham Notch with terrific hiking especially Glen Ellis Falls; Crawford Notch State Park and its several waterfalls. Then there is the Lakes Region south of the White Mountains. I could go on and on!

In Maine we stay every year at Shore Hills Campground in Boothbay; boat rides, whale watching, clambakes, Pemaquid Point (not far), and the Botanical Gardens. And so much more.

And then there is Acadia............!

I would add Richmond to your list as well, unless traffic has improved there.

We’ve done this run several times. Essentially, we turn off I-95 and head to the Charlotte area and then work our way north to Maine.

Google Maps, Garmin, and our Allstays app has done wonders for us.
