Thumbs up Found out something interesting

While getting the 33rlds ready for a trip on the 24th of this month, I loaded food into the fridge [after it was cold] and getting other things ready. I was on the fridge side of the trailer when I was hearing some noise coming from where the fridge is. Took the doors off and while checking it out found out that there is a fan on the back side of the fridge and comes on when it gets hot in there. This is the first time that I have heard the fan. After looking at the manuals I did not see anything about a fan, maybe I missed it but glad it has one. Going tom save me some money cause I was going to buy one or two to put in the fridge compartment. Ernie

I heard the same thing in my fridge. It seems there is a fan behind the fridge that cools the back of it so the heat exchanger works better on hot days. My other RV's that I have owned did'nt have that and on hot days over 110 degrees the fridge had a hard time getting cool.

If the frig is located within the slide it can't vent out the top of the roof, so the addition of the fan helps move the air out the upper vent located on the outside slide wall.

If Jayco is supplying fans with frig's that vent straight through the roof, that's a nice added feature. Does anyone know if Jayco now provides frig fan's on all their RV models?

Well I have been on the roof 2 times and didnt notice that there was no roof vent for the refer. I guess as long as the refer works properly than I would rather not have anything extra screwed into the roof.

rwilley,

I may be misinterpreting your statement..., but I assume your frig has the standard roof vent (based on your floor plan) with the fan mounted near the heat exchanger. If there isn't a vent on the roof, then there must be one on the upper-outside wall of your FW.

My 351 did not have a outside circulation fan. I installed one in the outside fridge compartment. My fridge is just like the 321rlts with a lower and upper vent on the slide out. No roof vent possible.

Yes there is no roof vent but it has an upper vent on the outside wall that looks exactly like the lower vent.

rwilley,

I wonder if Jayco is getting away from the frig roof vents on some models..., which like you stated earlier one less thing attached to the roof is a good thing.

There is no way to roof vent it if it is on a slide out like the 330 and 351 rlts.

I think we all agree on that point.

A friend of mine took his trailer to the dealer four times for poor cooling in the fridge. They replaced the cooling section, then they replaced that cooling section, then they put in a new fridge. Still not cool on hot days. Last time in they added a fan. His fridge was in the slide, and the install manual for his fridge said if installed in a slide a fan must be installed for proper cooling.

My fridge is in my slide out and works very well. The first time the fan came on it was 90 degrees outside. I was aware of it and knew it would come on at some point. I just happened to be out by the hitch when it started. I read in a mod forum where a guy added two computer fans to his lower inside vent. They have a 80 degree set point to start up. If my fridge struggles down the road I'll do the same.

The fridge in my trailer is counter height so only has upper and lower vents on the side wall. This weekend was my first trip with temps > 100 in town and the fridge managed to get near 50 degrees before I got up to cool country where it worked just fine. This is with the blue fan inside the unit. I'm going to have to add some kind of fan to outer compartment.

It was 106 degrees on 2 days this last weekend. The fridge worked well on gas and I switched it to electric and it worked the same, 34 degrees. Fridge setting was on 4 of the 5 settings. I think this fridge works better than the one in my last 5er that had the roof vent. I just hope the fan doesn't go out.
