Free Norcold Hinge Reinforcement

On our last our trip the bottom hinge broke off on our Norcold refrigerator. When we got home I glued the broken hinge back together with JB Weld Plastic adhesive. I also bought the Norcold 634166 Door Hinge Kit to reinforce the hinge. My hinge is on the left side of the door while facing the fridge. The kit comes with both the right and left hinge pieces.

I will gladly send the right hinge kit to anyone needing one for their fridge that is hinged on the right side...handle on the left side. This kit will fit the N6 or N8 refrigerators. Just send me a PM with your mailing address and I will mail it to you, complete with the instructions.

This problem with Norcold has been ongoing for well over 10 years. You would think by now Norcold would incorporate the fix into all of their new units. Having your refrigerator door fall off while driving down the road is not conducive to quality engineering or consumer confidence.

I did this mod to my N8 about 5 years ago before it even thought of falling off. Sent my right hand hinge to another forum member as well. Can't believe Norcold hasn't rectified this problem as of yet. You'll get a taker and thanks for paying it forward.

Where can I get the Norcold 634166 Door Hinge Kit? Unfortunately, I also have a left hand hinge, or I'd take you up on your offer.

I think that was me. Easy install and it will prevent future problems. Thanks!

What is the problem exactly ? My trailer is not at home so I cant look at the hinges. What I understand is that the original hinges are made of plastic and the retrofit kit made from steel ? Thanks

I ended up using both of mine. The "extra" hinge fit on the upper pin. I figured that one can break as well ?

The plastic hinge is part of the bottom plastic door frame and susceptible to damage from the weight of the door. If the door frame was made of metal there wouldn't be a problem. Once the hinge breaks there is nothing to hold the door onto the refrigerator. Norcold could easily fix this problem, but for some reason refuses to do so.

Mine came with a right and left reinforcement pieces. Mine has the hinges on the left side so I can't use the other one.

I used the repair kit and yesterday when my daughter opened the door it fell off onto her toe!! The problem is that the piece you get to fix the problem slips over a piece of plastic - so that can break too. There was not much weight on the door at all and we had just opened the camper for the season. Can't believe Norcold hasn't addressed this issue!! Maybe when someone actually breaks a bone from that heavy door falling on their foot and they sue, the company will fix this obvious weak spot!!

The newer N8X fridges do not even offer the beefier support part. I know, I tried.

The plastic hinge piece on the bottom trim of my door broke today. The door is staying closed but I’m worried about travelling home. Anyone have any suggestions on how to ensure the door stay closed while travelling?
