Fresh water gravity fill vent problem
Hello,
We have a 2014 Jay Feather and have had problems filling the fresh water tank via the gravity fill inlet. It just takes for ever and water flows back out if I pour at any reasonable rate. I just pulled off the inlet and there isn’t anything attached to the overflow vent. I looked at the tank and there is a white hose coming out the top and the. Into the floor. Does anyone have any advice on what to do to make it easier to fill? We will be boondocking and manual hauling water to fill the tank. Any advice will be appreciated.
Thank you,
John

Try opening one of the faucets while filling.

Buy a replacement cap, drill a hole in it and attach a plastic pipe fitting. Then install a hose and funnel to the fitting, and support it while filling. When done, put the oem cap back on.
No muss, no fuss, no spill, easy peasy.

I’ve got a similar system but there appears to be no venting so water does not flow into the take easily.

There seems to be plenty of space around my fresh water hose and the fresh water gravity fill opening so air can escape easily on my 23RB.

All the tanks have vents, otherwise you couldn't draw from them. Its the tight angle of the hose between the fill port and the tank that's the problem. Putting gas in some boats is the same issue.
Regardless, however you do it, you need a big funnel.

On ours, I found the filler hose actually went uphill from the outside fill port before heading down to the tank. Inside the trailer, I reached in and rigged up a strap to pull the “hump” down to allow gravity to work.

Thanks. If the Jayco “craftsmen” had just trimmed a couple inches off the hose, it would have worked as intended and saved a lot of frustration — and wet shoes!

I see how you read it as if someone was transferring water from a Jerry can.
I use to use that camco water filler with a water bandit, on the end of my jerry can to manual fill the tank. It works nicely.
Better yet, I now use my water pump to fill the gravity tank. I place the jerry can inside my tt and use the winterizing tube, to suck up the water. Outside, I take the shower head off, and shove the hose down my gravity fill port. Turn on the cold water valve, and pump, and sit back and watch the water transfer.

LOL! Genius idea!
I wish I could do the same, but my shower hose is on one side of my trailer, while my gravity fill port is on the opposite side!

I have this but I have to put the hose on a trickle flow or the water backs up. It. Takes about 30 minutes to fill.

You can still do it! I got the idea on this site after someone mentioned they removed there shower hose, and found a garden hose adaptor. I bet a Water Bandit would work also.
