Unhappy Fresh Water tank issue

We have a 2015 Jayco Jayflight 28BHBE. We have taken it out twice. Both times we have filled the fresh water tank until water is rushing out the overflow hoses. Tank level shows Full. When we arrived at our destination tank level shows 1/3. We were followed the second time and water was observed coming out the bottom of the trailer. I assume from the overflow hoses. Any idea why I can't keep a full tank?

Welcome to the forum!

You'll find this is a common problem with our trailers. Most have solved the problem by installing ball valves on the overflow hoses. Just make sure you open them when you're filling your tanks and/or when you get stopped and set up at your destination.

The water is sloshing out the overflow tube while driving, this is normal. What some have done to stop this is use a barbed valve and hose clamp to the overflow tube, fill the tank at home with the valve open then close it while driving, open again at the campground.

Thanks for the advice. Another issue we had was by the Hot Water tank. We were plugged into power for 4 days. Two of those days we had the water heater on. When we were leaving we noticed that an extension cord sitting in the storage compartment next to the water heater had melted. Could this be from the heat of the water heater? What should we do to protect the things we store in the compartment?

If you cannot determine that the cord damage was caused by some other reason, I would return to the dealer as soon as practical and have the heater checked. Installed properly, you should not have damaging heat in an adjacent compartment. Nothing should melt an unused cord sitting in a compartment. Something is definitely amiss.

Safety first.

+1. You should get that checked out ASAP. Your water heater should not be anywhere close to that hot from the outside. My guess is it was something else. Did you use that cord for shore power? It might not have been enough cord?

More info, please.
Did you use the cord at all, or was it just an extra in storage?
If just being stored and it melted, you have a SERIOUS problem somewhere and I wouldn't use the trailer until you figure it out.
If the cord was being used, what was the gauge of the cord, and what did you use it for? Lots of things on a trailer that pull more juice than a wimpy cord can handle, resulting in overheating and melting - again, a very unsafe condition.

The cord was simply rolled up and being stored in the compartment under the bunk with the water heater. WE will get it checked out. Thanks

Please respond back when you get this figured out. Many folks use this forum as a means to learn more about their rigs, both the good and the bad. Most every experience has the potential to help someone else.

Thanks!
