I always try my best to travel with empty grey and black and only 10 gal traveling water in the fresh. We were coming back from boondocking with 2/3 grey and every time I had to stop hard the water would slosh to the front and 'burp' the stink past the p-trap in the shower, not a nice smell, even with grey tank deodorizer added. I have since acquired one of those old 5" diameter rubber stopper pads to cover the shower drain with just in case. Never had another coach do this.

As a side note IF I was asked to show my tank levels it would be easy as my sensors show empty even when full due to a bad ground I haven't fixed yet!!

Sewage can indeed be considered HAZMAT. I would consider it more Bio-hazard but still....

Two different things Septic tank trucks sometimes crash.
I was on one such call. Not an event calling for Haz Mat response

How they would check is an interesting question as the only time the black level indicator has been trustworthy in any of my 3 rigs is the day they were installed

I can assure you dumping human waste is indeed a huge issue. I used to tour with Diamond Rio years ago. We had an issue with a festival grounds letting our bus driver park close to the stage (to unload all the gear under the bus). Well long story short, it turned into a pissing match between the locals and the bus driver. On his way out of the fairgrounds, he decided to leave them a parting gift. He dumped our black tanks in the back of the stage/production area after we were done loading out and leaving to head to the next gig.
Let me tell you...they had more LEO on scene than I've ever seen. They stopped us a few miles down the road and made us return to the venue.
Then the DEQ showed up. The bus company got hit with all kinds of citations and fines. They were also billed for a local hazmat company to come and clean up the mess. The driver was issued citations as well. Needless to say, that bus driver didnt finish the tour with us.
I've never seen another issue like that in years, but that night was pretty interesting. I thought the whole crew was going to jail. After the LEOs found out that the buses are leased and the driver works for the leasing company, not the band, they let us head back to the stage area where we hung around until the whole deal was straightened out. We never played that state fair again as long as I worked with them.

gee you drive with it to a dump station.. We of the lower capacity tanks might use a sewage tote if we are going to stay.

Hmmmm, that would be an interesting sight...
RV rolling down the highway towing a sewage tote behind it.

no no no.. the tote would come with us in the truck while we are out. We sometimes use Wag Bags if we will stay longer than our black tank can handle.
But yes.. have another liquid one on me with the image of the towed tote!

I'm a retired police officer. The last thing I'd be concerned with during a vehicle stop is whether their black tank was full!
