Funny thing that happened on first outing
Well we took our 17z on its maiden voyage this weekend. The CG was really wet as we have had lots of rain this past month. They warned me when I arrived. Anyway, not really thinking, I opened the drivers side window so that I could hear my wife as I backed into our site. Well my van's wheels hit some mud and I sprayed mud everywhere. I was stuck. So I put it into drive. At this point the tires started spinning shooting mud all up and down the side of the Van including through the window and all over me. I was covered. Well we found a much dryer site and the rest went well. It just took me some time to scrape off all the mud.
Cheers

Why not cell phones? Almost everyone already has one.

I have been to several camp sites where cell phone service was marginal or non-existent. The FRS radios work every time and I can also give one to the kids when they go out to play for safety.
Nothing worse than a dropped call when backing into a camp site...
"Can you hear me......crash....NOW" lol....

We use radios. We've been to cg's with little/no cell service.

Hi bertscampers.
Hope your wife took a few "after" pictures. re: When you had mud down the side of your vehicle, all over you and inside your driver's side window. Oh ya. I can see it now. Most people show happy times while camping. Bertscampers and family share their "mud pitt" spraying pictures... Gotta love a good laugh. LOL!!!! On the serious side. Glad to read that your camping adventures went better afterwards....

This could qualify for the infamous Boneheaded moments thread.

Could've been worse, like sinking up to your axles in the mud and not being able to get out.

I would bet that the fact that your van is fwd didnt help when all the weight (the camper) was hanging in the back of the tv.

We also live in Southwestern Ontario and can relate to all the rain you talk about. Where did you go camping?

We stayed close to home so we went to Bronte Creek. But we do camp at many provincial parks.

We went to Rondeau Provincial Park and my husband estimated about 10% of the sites were under water.

You guys have great families, to actually help you out while getting into a site. My family tried to help me and somehow they let me drive the truck over a truck rim for campfires. It got wedged in between the frame rail on the truck and the transmission. If I move the truck either back or forth, the front of the truck would lift to the point the front tires were off the ground. Had to call a tow truck to lift the front of my truck to get the firerind outta there. i asked the towtruck driver to check for any picnic tables too.
Another time they guided me into a mud swamp, it was late at night, swamped the truck in mud to the axles. Another towtruck for that event.
We never did use the two way radios, i bought a set, but when it came time to find them, well who knows what ever happened to them. I always have a flashlite handy in the trailer, when i was gearing up for spring time camping i was at the local hardware store to get a flashilight, i thought i should get a couple cause the kids would take em on me, i left the store with 3 flashlights and yup u guessed it, when i needed a flashlight there was none to be found.
It's all about the experience I guess, if you can get the trailer parked and setup without getting divorced or running over one of your kids, your doing swell.
