Gas hot water system

Hi, we are new to this free camping and have purchased a Jayco Heritage poptop tandem. Our second Jayco van (previously had a 1985 family poptop). We have totally setup for free camping. I have just installed all LED internal and external lighting to save battery. I have one question regarding the Gas hot water. Should I leave the heater switch in the on position or can I turn it on when we are requiring hot water as it is instant gas hot water and turn it off when we don't need it? First trip is up around Innaminka and Birdsville so free camping along the way is a must. Look forward to your replies.

Hey Steve....

Welcome to JOF!!

You'll find a lot of friendly people here with good and useful information.

You might want to look and read in the "Boondocking" section. I'm sure you will find good stuff there and you may also want to post your question there as well.

Thanks Gl Simms. Went to boondocking and yes, plenty of ideas and answers. I posted my question there as well.
Thanks again Steve K
