The truck lanes from what I have seen are diesel and DEF only pumps.

I have not found one that has gas pumps on the truck side of the station. Also the diesel pumps on the truck side have larger nozzles and a higher flow rate and many diesel cars and pickups cannot use the large nozzles or the higher flow rate.

Sometimes it's hard finding a station where you can maneuver a large class A or class C.

Thanks. Why they do not add those pumps for gas and diesel RVs? that means more customers and business. What should a new RV driver do if stuck in a tight gas station?

Many Flying J's, and some others, have RV pumps that have diesel and 87 Regular.

The truck stop Truck lanes do not court RV's but they will accommodate them.

Some do but the number of trucks vs RVs and the volume of fuel pumped means they will cater to the truckers first.

Good time to start looking at diesel TVs. The truck pumps also have the high volume nozzles. Nothing like filling up your tank in 60 seconds.

As others have said, there are some RV lanes (although I recently hit a Flying J where the RV lanes were tucked in a corner and it was really hard to get my 22 foot F-350 + 40 foot Eagle trailer through) with gas and diesel, but I have never seen a truck lane with gas.

That depends.

What actual rig do you have? That makes a difference.

I agree. I tried the RV lane at a Flying J in Wyoming and it was a pita compared to the truck side. Very tight, traffic in the way, and us civilians don’t seem to move as “efficiently” as the truckers making it a longer process.

If I may offer a bit of advise as a relative newbie compared to some but have learned the hard way.

We pull a 31' TT with a Sierra 1500 short bed. When looking for stations I do look for the truck stops because they are larger and usually have east entrance and exit. Failing that the larger stations on the Interstate for instance.

In all cases, it's not a matter of getting in. It's a matter of getting out. I look for my exit path. I also try to use the pump on the far right as, again usually, I'll be pulling away from the pump to exit as opposed to having to turn left around the pump.

Also, if you find yourself in small towns and in need just be careful of roof clearance. Those old stations weren't built for cars not RVs or TTs.

That was the main reason I added an auxiliary diesel tank to my TV. With 80 gallons, I can always wait til I get to my site and disconnect.

On the Ohio turnpike there are some rest stops which have some RV overnight parking with power and a water/dump station. At those rest stops, there are a couple of diesel lanes which have gas pumps. I know, because I have used them.
I have never seen any other diesel islands which have gas. When I plan my trips I always scout the gas stations which I can use.

I scout out my pit stops prior also. Google street view will tell you how the pumps face and you can get an idea of the maneuvering room available. "Love's" along I-95 are my go to stations.

Gas ⛽️ Always a Challenge

As noted before me, Flying Js are your best bet for RV gas. Once pulled into one and got gas on the left and propane on the right in one stop. May not ever happen again.
Scope out Loves Travel Stops and wait for a far left side pump with a wide swing. Handicap parking spots along the store front are usually empty and can be used to make your swing into the pump more bearable.

Why not have pumps with 30-50 feet of hose so that people can drag the pump far away to fill gas? this way do not need to pull RV through tight space. they are too short now, only about 5 feet.

I have been to a few Pilot Flying J locations that are not conducive to fueling a large Class A motorhome, especially a large Class A towing a car or trailer. The pilot at exit 205 off I81 in Virginia is one such location.

If possible find a Flying J that has RV lanes and hope some jerk in a car is not using the lane and walking back and forth between the pumps and the cashier.

I have a 5th wheel, I have solved the problem with a large auxiliary fuel tank. I just be sure to refill when I am camped. I can drive about 1200 miles without buying fuel. Problem solved. Happy Camping and God Bless!
