Generator mod

I just bought a 337RLBH and pick it up on the 15th. I was too cheap to spend several grand on a generator...lol.

So...Amazon was having a Cyber week sale, and I snagged a Pulsar PG10000B 10,000W Peak 8,000W Rated Portable Dual Fuel Generator (Gas and LPG) with Electric Start for $569.

My plan is to scrap the frame and gasoline tank, line the generator box with a thick fireproof insulation that we have here at work(also will deaden sound), and install a decent sized 12v fan in the compartment for airflow. I will only use it when the power goes out, or when we are at Walmart or in the desert somewhere. I am just going to use a cord to plug into the normal 50 amp plug at the rear of the RV.

Any thoughts, or anyone done anything like this?

Ventalation, Ventalation ventalation. A 12v fan might give it a neat breeze but keeping it cool and allowing it to breath might be a task

If I have room, maybe a larger 120vac fan.

I have to get the camper & generator in my possession first, then I can engineer something.

Are you putting this in the front basement compartment where the stock genny would go? You’ll need lots of airflow for venting and you’ll need an exhaust pipe.

I have a champion 3500 inverter genny that I put on a cargo rack on the back of my trailer. It is inside a box (mainly for weather protection but also to hide it) which I put a small 110v fan inside of. I have a small exhaust pipe that exits the side of the box and I have plenty of venting to let in cool air and let hot air escape. I’m not sure you could accomplish that in the front basement. Good luck either way and post pics of your process.

Do you have a pic of your set up? That's what we would like to do. Have my Honda 2000 on Craig's list right now.

I put pics in the Mods to 377 thread. I can snap a couple pics in the morning of the box to post here.

Generator mod

What does your insurance provider think of this non-stock power plant and its potential fire risk? Worth asking should the worst happen with your compartmentalized setup. The RV generators are specifically designed for proper cooling in a compartment.

I have absolutely zero reservations about running my setup as it is. With proper cooling and exhaust venting, I’d have no problem running a generator in the front compartment either.

I would have suggested that you got a inverter generator. Our 377 has LOTS of electronics and a surge could do a lot of damage.

I could be totally wrong about this (cause my genni is a small inverter type), but I would think the Pulsar would vibrate and be very loud within the rv, no matter how much insulation you use. I also would not use any electronics with it either. JMO
