Generator Question

I would like to purchase an invertor generator (because of how quiet they are) to use with my 2016 Eagle fifth-wheel. I have a single 15,000 BTU Airxcel Coleman Air conditioner on it. Most invertor generators - Honda, Yamaha, Champion, etc., - max out at a starting capacity of about 3,000 to 3,100 watts (run capacity is usually about 2,800 watts). Does anyone have any experience using an invertor generator in that startup capacity range to run their 15K AC? With all other electricity using items shut off, will a 3,000 or 3,100 watt generator start the Coleman 15K AC?

To run my 15K A/C, I run 2 2000W inverter generators. Works fine. I know of others who run theirs with a 3100W and have no problems. I went with the 2000W variety because they are lighter (~ 47 lbs. each. Easier to move into TV) and I only use one if I'm not running the A/C.

Happy RVing,
Jeff

You may also want to consider adding a ' hard start capacitor ' to the compressor.

Inexpensive, and will provide a boost of current at the moment the compressor starts to reduce the sudden demand on the generator

The hard start capacitor is something I've had on my to do list for a long time. Looks to be only about $30 and a 10 minute upgrade.
I run my aircon off my 3000w Honda but I have to be aware of what else is on. In a perfect world I'd also opt for the twin 2000s. I got a great deal on my Honda so until it goes (probably after I do) then I'd replace with the smaller pair.

We power our 28BHBE with 2 2000 Watt EI Yamaha inverter generators (4000 Watts total). No problems at all. Just don't want to start the microwave the same time the AC starts. I shut the AC off when I need the Microwave. Not needing the AC, 1 generator provides all the power I need.

Most of the time one Honda or Yam 2000 will be all your need. When using air it will take the pair. A bigger one 3000 + will probably meet all your needs, but then you will be dragging all that horsepower around when you don't need it.

The pair offers some advantage for storm outages at home if you don't have a generator input set up for your house circuits. Feed one unit into the kitchen to power up the fridge and handle the microwave mixer etc. The 2nd one for the family room and bedroom as needed. I run a HD extension cord up thru a floor vent and connect in a power strip. Quick to set up and easy to put away.
