Camping during a Government Shutdown?

Just read that there may be a government shutdown soon.

Just curious. Have any of you been through one of these while camping on federal land? If the federal government shuts down, are you forced to leave your site?

Yes. The gates were locked last time while we were out and all campsites empty.

There are always rumors and posturing though and they are often settled at the last minute.

BTW, the government does not shut down, the taxpayers just suffer.

This is not a political rant, just the facts.

And at $174k plus they are way overpaid for what they do, or I should say don't do.

We weren’t there but camped nearby. We went to look at the Cg and it was locked and not a soul there. We walked around the gate and explored all over and never saw anyone.
If you have reservations I would call and find out what they have done in the past.

Yes the campgrounds will be closed. By Federal law
It’s not up to individual Presidents.

Campgrounds that requires personnel to collect money may shut down but I don't thing things like the WWII memorial would be blocked off like in the past for petty politics.

If there is a shut down all volunteers are also "laid off" since they only work under the supervision of paid employees.

Odd's are as of now, that there will not be a shut down.

Let's try and guess what else will be shut down if the political comments continue. Keep them limited to how it would affect camping.

Our comment was in jest but perhaps an all volunteer staff would work best.

My scary thing is both my income checks are government retirement SS and Civil Service... Being the poor man I am I would not be able to carry anything over even for one month...

The last one I remember I was working at the Naval Base and we all got sent home and everyone got turned around at the main gate - could not enter the base - Payday came as usual...

Wasn't fun for us federal employees either. I had a home purchase held up because bank couldn't confirm my employment. First thing every morning we'd turn on the news to see if we were working. Rumors of not being paid for the time away had many worried. Having to face angry public and try to explain things politely was also not fun.
It's just too bad that both sides have found the tools to use against each other, like divorcing parents.
I have camped, since retiring, at county campground while BLM campground next door was gated.

Social Security and Civil Service checks will continue uninterrupted during any shut down of the government. That money does not come from general operational money.

As for what Federal property is or is not physically open, that depends on how badly the administration wants to screw with the public. Case in point, I found myself up in the Philly area during the first, that I remember, government "shut downs". This would have been in the 80's I think. While there, I had wanted to visit Valley Forge National Park. Well, the normal park rangers were not there, and any buildings that were normally part of the tour were closed. However the gates for the roads through the park were open. So we chose to at least drive around the park.
