Take a tennis ball and cut a hole just big enough to fit over your 2'ball. Smear a healthy amount of lithium grease inside of it. As soon as you unhitch, put the tennis ball on.

I clamp the hitch back on the trailer and lock it. The bars are locked and stay outside. I use motorcycle chain lube in a spray can to grease things up.
