Happy Independence Day! Put your flag out. Read the Declaration of Independence. Support those who stand up for the Constitution. Don't Tread On Me.

Happy and Safe Fourth everyone!

Where I live in southern Indiana, we are in a heat wave with temps in triple digits! And because we are also in a drought, there is a fireworks ban imposed.

And I agree with mcfarmall, read the Declaration of Independence, something our politicians need to do. Sadly, more of our freedoms are being taken away.

X10 , and a crisp salute to our Armed Service members who have served, and those who are serving on this day, especially to the ones who cannot be with us at home to celebrate.

Here's a thought-provoking, informative article on the Declaration of Independence by Dr. Larry Arnn, president of Hillsdale College.

http://townhall.com/tipsheet/elisabe...fourth_of_july

Quote:
Two hundred thirty-six years ago this Fourth of July, 57 men signed the document that created the American republic. They represented a people of about 3 million grouped in a series of 13 colonies along the eastern seaboard of the United States. They were all wanted men, sought by the commander of the British forces in North America for sedition and treason. He had behind him the resources of the greatest military power on earth. They had behind them the bare beginnings of a government, hardly anything of an army, but something mighty in the way of an idea....

Thank you very much for the link Quahog....

I took the "liberty" (no pun intended), to copy and paste this paragraph from your link. Sadly our country seems to be getting away from this, especially the first sentence.

Excerpt from How to Celebrate the Fourth of July

Elisabeth Meinecke
Townhall Magazine Managing Editor

Jul 04, 2012 08:00 AM EST
"Finally, the Declaration calls for a limited government. The king was taxing America’s forefathers without their consent, and he was using the money, among other things, to pay for a hired army to oppress them. He sent many officials to make sure that his will was followed on all occasions, whatever the commoners may wish. The Declaration charges him with erecting “a multitude of new offices, and [sending] hither swarms of officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.” In other words, the king offended against the principle of limited government. He was building a structure too strong for the people to manage."

Happy 4th to all, Love the flags Larry G. Been out all day at 4th party and wore the red, white and blue for this special day, may pull out the 1776 DVD and watch it later. For those who don't know its a musical comedy that looks at the signing of the declaration of independence from a different angle, where else can you see Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams sing about the declaration of independence and the birth of this great country.

Thanks Dave. I can't think of a better neighbor than Canada, even despite all those extra "u's" LOL.
