Harbor Freight fresh water pump 12v vs. 120v

Anyone have any experience with these cheap pumps? My trailer holds a lot of fresh water and I've never run out yet while camping for 2 nights without water hookups, but I can see that it could happen if I were there for longer than that. I have a 7 gal. "blue cube" so I could take off some grey water, but I'd like to use the other cube to add some fresh water on occasion. Most of the time I would be at state parks with "electric/no water" so I could use the 120v version, but if dry camping I could run the pump either from the trailer or truck battery.

I don't have one of the Harbor Freight freshwater pumps, but I do have one of their diesel pumps. I've used it for about 5 years or so now to pump fuel to my tractor. It works great, albeit a bit loud. For a freshwater standpoint I've got a few different options. I got an old RV pump from a buddy that owns a junkyard. Worked great and quiet, but really wasn't set up for long term pump (30 gallons at a time) and I burnt the crankshaft up on it. I replaced it thinking it was because it was old, but first time after the repair I noticed it getting got and the "grease" coming out of the crank again. So plan "B", I found a 120 volt pump at Lowes on sales. Normally about $90 they had it for $45 picked it up, but didn't like having to drag an extension cord out in addition to the hose. Then a few weeks back, I found a 12 volt pump at Rural King for $33. I will just plug it into the RV plug on the back of the truck. No more having to drag an extension cord out for me.

Instead of the 115 volt Harbor Freight pump I purchased a 12 volt Wayne transfer pump. The Wayne pump is more expensive but it has much better reviews on durability than the Harbor Freight one. I have been using mine for about one month now to transfer water from a 45 gallon bladder to my holding tank. So far so good. It seems to be somewhat faster than the Jabsco diaphragm pump I had been using. It takes about 20 minutes to transfer 45 gallons.

In our swift 184 we only have a 15 gal. fresh water tank. I refill using a 6 gallon tote. Bought a transfer pump ay home depot for 6 dollars that runs off an electric drill.I connect the drill to our generator. Can transfer the 6 gallons in about 2 minutes, so counting refilling the tote, probably about a 15 t0 20 minute job. Have only had this pump for a month or so , so I can't speak for its durability, but for 6 bucks if I get one season out of it I would be happy......happy camping!

I have the 12 volt HF pump.. I prefer 12 volt systems when working with water... it pumps from my 45 gallon bladder (think water bed here)
