I think mice do not have good eyesight. They do however have great smell and like to follow the walls to get to the smell.

I suspect they would never see a plastic owl mounted up above them...

Never tried cat litter before but have tried cotton balls soaked in "100% PURE" Peppermint Oil (AMAZON)... Can't be the regular Peppermint Oil you find at most stores.

I carry fresh soaked cotton balls in a handy zip lock bag

We place the cotton balls at entry point where we see signs of mouse traffic.

I have mounted the owls on screen door springs thru the bottom with allthread and nuts and bolts..the springs are a little longer than the allthread to enable a slight amount of rocking and swaying in the wind...I did this for pigeons on the roofs of apartment buildings..(nesting under the A/C units)..It worked pretty good...I also cut upstretched wings for the owls out of sheetmetal and bent them in a way that they would flutter around and rotate in the wind...it took a little doing but it really worked out well !

Just hang a picture of my ex mother in law on the outside and that will keep everything away from your trailer.
