The kicker is that the prices are artificially inflated vs. a shortage.
People are driving less with all the remote work. Russia and middle east cut their production to increase prices. It's all fake. The price should be at $2/gal.

Higher travel plans and fuel costs
Fuel is a given if you want to travel in any tt/mh/car/truck. Think what it would cost to travel with commercial airlines/hotel/3 squares a day, misc. Expenses. So much more freedom with rv travel and nothing like meeting other rv travelers. Mtc...

The current attitude in is that the internal combustion engine needs to be eliminated or else our planet is doomed to self destruct. What better way towards that goal than making it so expensive that people will just give up RV’ing.
I also don’t see an electric tow vehicle in the near future that could go 400 miles a day and tow the heavy loads we tow today. The cost of producing such a vehicle will be out of reach for most people today.
That being said I still plan to travel this summer and take advantage of “cheap gas” while it’s still available. Today I paid $2.99 to fill up my truck, the cost was $61.00. That will get me about 220 miles down the road towing my trailer.

2.61 in Southeast Iowa. The higher the price the more "wine" it will require, but we will still travel.

The higher gas prices will not deter us from hitting the road.

Fellow Canadian, always a good deal in the US for travel for gas prices and food also, pandemic is forcing us to stay close to home this summer.

Travel plans 2021
My wife and I plan on short trips of no more than two days traveling from home. If prices go down we would like to travel to Maine to tour some light houses and see civil war battle sites as well.

I hadn't thought about that. Wouldn't that be nice! I think I'd gladly double my fuel budget if it kept other people home again.

In 2019 we did Ohio to Key West and back and then Ohio to Alaska and back and lots of meandering between. Spent around $7000 in gas. In British Columbia we paid over $7.00 per gallon.
In 2020 we went nowhere.
2019 was far superior.

Gas Prices

I'm on the fence right now. On one hand, gasoline in Oregon was around $2.75 a gallon when we went camping every three weeks. With the average trip being a couple hours from the house, I could get away with a tank of gas.
We moved to Texas where gasoline is less expensive, but due to COVID there's been limited camping options. Now that we're starting to get ahead of it, Uncle Joe is in charge and he's sticking it to the fossil fuel companies. This in turn will affect surplus, reduce production and increase prices. A year ago I was paying $1.50 for a gallon of gas. Today it's about $2.50 a gallon and creeping up. I imagine if we're going anywhere, it'll be closer to home to save on gas.

No, not really. When prices went down, we looked at that as a “bonus” savings. The higher prices aren’t much different from the pre-Covid prices.

I just saw an on line article a few days ago about how gas prices have gone along since before WW2....and it was an eye opener. Bottom line, when adjusted for inflation, those 18 cents per gallon 1937 gasoline prices would come in around $2.60 in today's money. In the table, the most expensive period for fuel pricing was from around 1978 through 1986, when it had about a $3 per gal equivalence. If I can find the article again I'll post a link here. In case I don't, here's a lesser set of prices that was done by the government https://www.usinflationcalculator.co...for-inflation/

A good price (steal) is a matter of perspective. A gallon of gasoline in Venezuela is .07 cents. A gallon of gasoline in the United States is $3.19 .
