Head knocker

We have a 2022 Jayco 24RB there is a low hanging shelf over the head of the bed and heads hit it when get up out of bed or laying down. If you are careful it's ok but just forget that it is there and bang, especially in the dark.
Anybody else have the same issue a daughter in-law wants to take a chain saw to it. It really was not designed very well.

Ouch! I assume yours is pretty much the same as our model, but we’ve never had that problem. I’m 6-6 and clear it fine unless I sit straight up and slide back at the same time. Rather than firing up the chainsaw, what about sticking some foam padding on the underside edge just in case?

That’s a good idea! Unfortunately for me, my head would be about 6” off the foot of the bed!

I found a picture but I don't know how to post it. It doesn't show how far out it sticks

The 25RB TT has the same shelf, BIL removed his along with a few other JOF members.

Here are a couple threads on the subject that may be helpful:

I have a 195RB and hit my head or arm on the cabinet edge a couple of times to many. I purchased a kit designed to protect babies from sharp corners.

search amazon " baby crib edge protector bumper"
you get 16 feet, several corners of dark brown self stick. Mine didn't stick well because I tried to stretch it. I add some double stick tape in a couple places and many fewer wacks against those cabinet edges and corners. I can get a pic tomorrow if you want to see it installed. Doesn't look to bad installed either and it is three years old now.

Bob, I see what you mean. As with some other features, the folks who design these TTs must never use them. One goose egg and I’d be ripping into that thing, too. Ironic that half the stuff in the trailers are falling apart with flimsy staples. This seems to be one thing that is firmly attached. Go figure. Good luck.

Here is a picture of the bumpers installed on my cabinet edges. As you can see they don't glare at you and are much better on the head or arm when you get up.

RogerR, Adding the bumper guard protection is a good and simple idea. I'm going to get a roll of this bumper guard material and do the same thing around the cabinet edges in the bedroom.

shelf

geezerbob,

I took our shelf out of my 27rl! It can be done yourself you just need to take your time and get every screw out carefully! it's in there very tight but once you get one side to move it will come out! I love it and if you hadn't seen it before you would never know it was there!

good luck!
