What type of electric portable heater do you have in your trailer?

I have two. I can run both on the lower setting and not flip a breaker.

We have an old Ceramic Heater I suspect from the early 80's. Nice metal frame, not plastic. We store it in the original box, so it still looks new.

We tend to place ours on top of the stove when we use it. I also have a small 12V AUX plug fan, that helps circulate the air. Works great.

Here is what we use

Lasko 755320 Ceramic Space Heater

We have 2 and plug one in at the living room and one in the bedroom in the washer /dryer outlet. We know the bedroom outlet is 20 amp and splitting them up have never had an issue with breakers. Note that the living room cannot be running when we run the microwave or heat pump for then we blow a breaker.

We have a Honeywell Electric Oil Filled Radiator. They work great and are silent.
We actually have 3 of these.
First one is in our home's well pump house. Been there for 20 years and still chugging.
Second one we keep in the house for "local" heat, if needed. Bought sometime around 2004ish and still working fine.
Third one we purchased last summer. That one lives in our Jayco.

We bought all of ours locally. Similar to this one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-HZ-.../dp/B009YKYH92

700/1500 watt oil filled because it makes no noise.

After we get home I am going to add an outlet to the box we plug our trailer in. This way we can make coffee at the same time. Crazy English Setter!

So the oil filled radiators seem to do the job well enough? I would have thought it took too long to get the rv warmed up.

DW and I were going to get a 360 heater this spring, but would get radiator for the quiet if it fits the bill.

As far as oil filled heaters having lesser capabilities, 1500 watts is 1500 watts be it ceramic or oil filled. The oil filled heaters take longer to warm up but in 10 minutes they're putting out as much heat as a ceramic. They have a larger area to disperse heat so the fins won't be as hot as the front of a little ceramic heater but they put out the same BTUs.

Yeah that's what I meant, time to heat things up, but only ten minutes isn't bad. The last oil filled radiator I had took over an hour to get up to temp.

I'd agree with hoppers4 that 1,500 watts is 1,500 watts. An oil filled heater is a radiant heater so it will do just that, radiate the heat. If you want it to disperse more evenly or quickly in the room(s), throw a "quiet" fan behind the fins to get it to you more quickly, IF you find the oil-filled isn't "working" the way you'd expect. It may defeat the aspect of quiet heat but you can start with oil and add a fan of you need to. It doesn't work the other way around very well. Our 360° heater I mentioned in post #2 becomes white noise after awhile.

I like the idea of the oil filled heater. But with a smaller TT, they take to much room, and weigh to much. We leave our little ceramic heater in the cargo hold year round. Our ceramic heater is very old and very quiet.

I think the most important thing is to ensure it has the tip switch (I think all the new ones are required to have them to be UL listed). So if it gets knocked it shuts off.

I also added the heat strip to our AC. Bit noisy, the air does not feel warm, as there is a lot of CFMs passing the small coil, but it warms up the HTT nicely.

I use a Vornado with digital temp control. A bit more expensive then the smaller ones but way quieter. I cannot even hear the fan run. The digital temp control holds the temperature to within a degree or two at most. 750 or 1500 watts. Well made and advertises a 5 year warranty. I bought one for the mobile home in Florida and liked it so much got a second one for my 195RB. We are short of storage but like the quiet comfort so much it is well worth it. (Expensive at $79 to 99 but well worth it.)

If the camper is cold-soaked, we use the furnace to bring the interior up to temp while concurrently running the oil filled radiator. We shut down the furnace once the interior is up to temp. The oil filled radiator takes it from there.

The radiators do take up space. With our floorplan, we are able to work around it without too much nuisance.

Others have mentioned the ceramic heaters. If the fan was to continuously run, that might be a good option due to the fan serving as "white noise"; as long as the fan isn't obnoxiously loud. A fan that cycles on/off might be disturbing to some peoples sleep quality.

I should have mentioned that I love the digital thermostat. I had an older manual one where you just turn the dial but could never get it right. We were either too cold or too hot. The digital thermostat is nice for you set it to 68 and it runs until it gets there and then turns off until it needs to start up again. It is not loud at all but does not have a feature to have the fan run constantly.

I have an oscillating Lasko 5309 ceramic heater, and it keeps my 26BH plenty warm even when the outdoor temp drops into the high 20's. If I need some heat during the day I set it to run at 70 or 75 degrees. Overnight I set it on 65, and when I wake up in the morning my furnace thermostat verifies that the TT temp is right around 65 degrees.

I usually turn on the furnace first thing in the morning to get the temp up to 72 degrees quickly, the set the Lasko back up to 70 or 75 degrees.

And I agree that the temperature control is very accurate, but it can only be set in 5 degree increments.

Being a tower heater the footprint is very small, so it takes up little space. And to my ears the fan is extremely quiet. I can barely hear it when the fan is running.

I think I paid around $35 for it at Walmart a couple of years ago.

Lasko 5309 Oscillating Heater

However, I cheat a little. I've cut out inserts made of foam insulation board that I fit into the windows, and I place them in all the windows every evening. That really helps a lot in retaining the heat in the trailer. It's my version of dual pane windows. LOL

we use the oil filled radiator and have only turned on the furnace twice a year to do a function check. the radiator does take a little bit to warm up our camper because its a larger camper but the propane savings is huge
