Heater/Furnace Dry camping

Hello Everyone! I am wondering if I can use my heater with no shore power. I have 2 battery's now. Will not use TV, minimal lights. All I need battery is for fridge, heater, and water pump. Going to Big Bear, Ca and it drops to mid 30's!! Thanks again!!

To view 12V items that should continue to work while NO shore power is available, see 12V diagram items within:

Hope this helps....

Your furnace will work well on 12V, but be aware that it will not work for long without recharging. There are a lot of variables, like where you set your thermostat, and how cold it actually is. In 30 degree temps one or possibly two nights would be your limit without recharging.

Nice to see you back Clossan! We have used our heater over two nights off shore power once. Have fun at Big Bear. We've only been there to play in the snow in winter. It would be nice to take a Summer trip there sometime

My experience with running the furnace sans shore power is I got one day's use off the battery before I had to switch to the backup.

That was one of the reasons why I just added a generator.

Since I do a lot of camping Nov-March in SoCal I am adding a catalytic heater to my trailer. Uses less propane and no battery power. I should pay for the unit with the savings the first winter..

You can get 2-4 days of furnace use on two batteries, depending on how cold it is. We do it all the tme.

You have to be attached to the land-line AC for the uWave to work. Of course you could use batteries and an invertor but you wouldn't get much time, uWaves are power hogs.

You would need a 2000 watt inverter as well and if you dont have a big enough battery bank you will kill the batteries in no time at all.

Clossan 22743, The things that work with out shore power are all lights, radio, fan on furance and thats it. On propane the refer and oven and stove will work. So bring an old style coffee pot used on the stove if you like coffee.

And without shore power, you'll also have hot water (on propane), exhaust fans (bath/stove) and the water pump for running water.

What you don't have with batteries-only is the air conditioning or fan-only setting of the HVAC system and the microwave. And no power to the wall outlets.
