Hershey RV Show Questions

Hi,

I was wandering if any members have attended the Hershey RV show in September? Hoping to get some info to help me decide weather to wait for the show or purchase a new 5ver now. I heard that there were some great deals during the show with good trade in values and reduced pricing. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Greg

My family was interested in getting an RV about this time last year. Once summer came that idea kind of faded and I thought it as a dead deal. My brother, Dad and I went to the show this past September. We were possibly going to buy one but weren't set on it.

We always liked the Jayco trailers and lo and behold Jayco was the very first dealer at the show once you got inside. We found the same model that we were looking at back home and it was about $5,000 less at the show. The show price was around $13k. I can only assume that a higher priced RV would have a steeper price difference too!

Anyway, we were limited to smaller hybrids and we looked at all the manufacturers that had models were were comfortable with pulling. We ended up comparing all other RV's to the Jayco. We went back and signed on the dotted line.

I don't know if the 5K price difference was due to the show or because we live in a high cost of living area with little RV dealership competition. Maybe a combination of both. It is about a 4 hour trip there and a 4 hour trip back and we did it all in one day. It was a long day but the savings was worth it. HGTV has been running an RV special for a few months now. It was actually filmed at the 2011 show. We did walk right past a guy speaking into a camera while we were there, we walked right past the shot at one point. Little did we know 6 months later we find out that the guy was recording for HGTV.

I would highly recommend attending the event if you are anywhere near the show. I have no idea how many RV's are there but just about every manufacturer has just about every model so comparison shopping is a breeze. Even though its hike for us we fully attend to attend again this September because of possibly upgrading.

There are a few downsides though. I think we attended the show on Thursday and bought it that day. We were fully prepared to take it home but they said it wasn't possible. My brother and dad had to drive back there a week or two later just to get the thing. Still worth the 5K savings as opposed to buying local. Also, the camper we bought is the one that was actually at the show. We bought it on Thursday and they kept it open to the public for the remainder of the show I believe. I know it was the same camper because one of the dome lights had a crack in it that I remembered seeing at the show. I also assume it was kept open the entire length of the show because we saw other campers that were labeled as sold but were still open to the public.

We drove 300 miles to go to the Hershey RV show to have a look at 5rs. It was a great 5 day excursion. We stayed at the Twin Grove KOA. We spent 6 hours just looking at 5rs. We saw at least a dozen different manufacturers and all their models. We spent a lot of time at the Jayco display. We didn't price anything specific but they seemed reasonable in retrospect. I will say that it was a great way to compare. If required you could go back immediately to have a second look.
For us it confirmed our choice to stay with Jayco and we decided on the 321RLTS that we have ordered from a Dealer near us. There is also a lot tech advice and other accessory manufacturing reps.
If you research, you will find there is a discount, 2 fer 1, $9.00 for 55 and over and no parking charge. Our local RV show would have cost us $20.00 entry and $5.00 for parking, with 1 or 2 Jayco models on site.
We use the Twin Grove KOA as our first and last stop when heading south and home again and have been to that area 4 times for a holiday. We really enjoyed ourselves.

The only down side is that in September the camping season is over for people in a lot of the country. It will be nearly a year old by the time camping season starts again.

I went to the show spent a lot of time looking at diffrent brands. Spent a good amount of time at Jayco rep site. Rvdirect was also there but selling the bus motor homes. Got a price from RVdirect on the Eagle 284bhs Then went back to the Jayco rep and they could not beat the price. So I pulled out the trusty cell phone called Campers Barn in NY closer to my home and they beat the price by $500 and gave me the WDH. I could have left the camper at the dealer and the warrant wouldn't have started till I picked it up this spring but we had camping trips planed.
So the Hershey show was good to see diffrent brands but if you know that you want a Jayco look at RVdirect and go from there. Happy hunting

I go to the Hershey RV show, just about every year. I only live about 90 minutes away. They do have good prices at the show, but my local Jayco Dealer (Rhone's Travel Trailers in Cogan Station, PA) made me a better deal. The best thing about the show is the ability to see many brands, models, etc. in one place. I saw my 17Z at the 2009 show, and purchased it from my dealer.

That's kind of what we did, only in reverse. Last summer we were browsing our local lots and they wanted close to 19K for the 17Z. A month or two later we went to the Hershey show and the 17Z was around 13.5K and included some extras. We jumped on it.

We'll be opening the camping season 2 weeks from tomorrow!

We fully intend on going to the show again in September. Anyone else planning on it?
