Hidden under sofa storage

I noticed in my 264bhw that there is a fair amount of unaccessed storage under the right side if the jack knife sofa. Anyone out there worked out a way to access this. I can get linens or the like in if I pause mid conversion. Ideas?

If it is like mine, lift the seat up (unfold the sofa partially) then pull up the bottom of the front panels and they should swing up giving you full access.

Great! We have the 2015 264BHW and had not thought about storage there under sofa. We did put struts on the queen bed, now lifts up like a dream making that storage very easy to get at and usable.

The front panel is that full length padded panel. That pulls up or swings up? I have a bad habit of being too gentle for fear of breaking things. Not that that has ever happened;-)

If there is a will, there is a way. Just start snooping. In one of the online photos, it looks like there is a heat duct coming out of the front, so there has to be a way to gain access. Start looking for screws. If there are any cup holders in the arm rest pull them up and look down and around (the best you can). Does it convert into a bed? If so convert it slowly and look at any gaps created while converting.

good luck, if you find a way post it.

Another thought, call Jayco with your vin number and ask if there is away to get under the sofa, use some excuse such as your little 2 year old pulled the cup holder up and dropped their favorite toy down the hole. If there is not one, does it appear you can drop something down between the cushion and the arm rest? If so, use the same excuse, or say your wallet/watch, smartphone slipped down there.

I believe the front pad is held on with wing nuts that are accessible from inside the frame. I haven't looked at mine in a long time since it seem like too much trouble to recover a small about of space. If I could get that cover to hinge up or away, it might make a good place to put shoes.

klpoppe is right on the money.

On these jackknife sofas, convert it 1/2 way so that is a "V" shape, then you can simply swing the bottom pannel up.

On our 26BH, we used this to store bulky excess food items like bottle water, beer & soda, as well as spare paper products. Things you need, don't access all the time, and take up way to much storage space in cupboards.

When I get home I'll go out and investigate. For reasons such as this, this site rocks!

I hide my 24 inch TV under my jackknife sofa while it's in storage. If someone broke into it, all they see is just the swing arm mount on the wall.

I have a 2013 26BH and I too have struggled with that storage space. The jack knife couch, when you lift it half way into a V, there is a metal bar that is in the way of the storage space making it impossible to put cases of water, soda or beer under there. I did put extra paper products under there but I am afraid they will be difficult to get out. If the front panels come out that will make much easier to access this space.

You know what might work, those clips that we have in our garages that we snap our garden tools into that hang on the wall. Attach them to the back side of the panel and snap it on to that steel bar behind the panel.
Just thinking!

The panel on mine is attached to that bar at the top and it swings on that bar. The bottom is free so once the couch is partially converted (v-shape) grab the bottom of the panel at the floor and it should swing freely upward giving full access to the storage underneath. Hopefully the 264bhw is the same design.

So I took a look and it appears that the panel was screwed on then covered with the leatherette. There are staples holding it tight on the top. No metal bar or wing nuts. I gave it a good tug mid conversion. Nothing. After looking at it again, there is a fair sized gap mid conversion. I think we could fit extra dry goods and drinks easily enough. The divider for the heat ducts is uber flimsy though. I don't think I would put anything of weight in there during transport.

In your photo titled "under couch storage panel removed," what panel exactly did you remove? The front, side, or rear?

The front panel, right half. The front left half covers the furnace.

Nancy, you have a lot of sweet mods. I really like the removal of the panel over the micro wave. Is there really nothing behind it? With the under couch mod, my panel appears to be one piece and is secured tightly. Is there something I'm missing in trying to remove it?

Nothing over the microwave. I figured an exhaust or something. Nope! Under my sofa, the front panel is split about 60/40. The left side is to protect the furnace/duct work. The right side has metal hangers at top holding it to a metal pole. They are on using wing nuts. That's how mine is. P.s. I think I met you before. I believe you are friends with tlhdoc (Tracy)

This is what our sofa looks like half way up. As long as someone holds it up, I can access underneath it.
