Hot Water Tank question.
We spent the weekend in our new 32 BHDS. I turned on my gas hot water switch and the red light in the button came on and stayed on for the weekend. I had hot water and everything seemed fine. The red light in my last TT only went on when there was an issue or out of propane. Is it ok for the red light to be on?

Yes, it is on as long as you have the switch on. It is also nice that you can have the propane switch and the electric switch on at the same time for a faster hot water recovery rate. 3 showers back to back and never ran out of hot water.
The recovery rate is listed on the water heater itself on the outside for running each individualy or together.

If you control is like mine, there is a small little light that says "DSI Fault" that will come on if there is a problem. The main light on the switch will stay on and that means you are all good....

Just out of curiosity, how long should the water have to run before hot water comes out? It seemed ours never got hot, but it was certainly hot inside the heater. We just had the electric on.

If the water is hot in the tank and not at the faucet it could be that the bypass is not closed. That could give you a mix of hot and cold.

Thats how my last RVs hot water heater worked also. Both electric and the gas switch say lite when on in the new Jayco.

If it is the first time to run the hot water from kitchen faucet after start up it takes about 10-15 seconds of running. After that the hot water line stays warm a while and is only about 5 seconds or so. The bathroom and outside kitchen sink doesnt take but about 5-10 seconds. The water is traveling quite a ways. But yeah, if it never gets hot then check bypass.

It's not a silly question: see here:

Basically, when you close the bypass, you open the flow to tank and its return. When you winterize, you close off the tank valves and open the bypass so the antifreeze goes around the tank (which you empty beforehand).

Yes the bypass valve has to be closed to get hot water, all you need to do is set the switch on propane or electric at your main panel. I found this out on our one day trip last weekend....
