How can they tell

I have a 28BHBE with the retractable kitchen faucet. It started leaking this spring. I had to take the camper in for a few warranty items and that was one of them. I call today and the service rep says that the service tech says the leak looks like it was caused by freezing. I winterized by pumping anti-freeze through ALL faucets and the shower head. I told them this so she was going to talk to the tech again. They say if it was damaged by freezing then its not covered by warranty. She also asked if I wanted that exact faucet. I said it just has to be one w/ the same features that works and matches the decor.

My question is how can the service tech tell if it was damaged by freezing? If the faucet was seated at an angle, wouldn't any and all water drain downard? Just curious.

Thanks

There is likely a "loop" in the pullout hose that may act like a trap preventing complete drainage of the hose. Freeze damage may be evidenced by "splitting" of the line or fittings, if you see that sort of failure it is an indicator freezing may be the culprit.

I hope they take you at your word (that antifreeze was flowed through all fixtures) and take care of your issue.

Good luck!

If they don't take care of it, they don't want the warranty claim money, and I'd find somebody else.

I guess the crack makes sense, but to me it's an easy and cheap fix to keep customer satisfaction high. Gonna call tomorrow to solve this. Hope to pick it up Sat.

+1

Also, I wonder if Jayco would send you one anyway and you could install it yourself. They'd probably want the broken one back.

Really, I don't like my OEM faucet at all, and if it ever fails, I guarantee I'm not replacing it with the same thing that was there (easy to say now that I'm out of warranty). I'd use it as an excuse to make a serious upgrade that might include a better sink.

I agree with Camper_bob. Usually, warranty or not, we replace all faucets anyway just to get better quality and what we want. Only reason I haven't changed the one in the kitchen is because we're changing the sink out for a stainless steel one soon. Bathroom one has already been changed. Hope they help you out instead of coming up with excuses.

Not to get too far off topic, and I'm sure you will anyway, but when you get around to putting a new sink in, post it up. Include where you sourced the sink. That is something I'd like to do in the next couple years.

I replaced my bathroom faucet a couple of years ago with a "good one" by Kohler. I full time and obviously that faucet is used a lot.

Good news!!! The dealer did decide to replace the leaking faucet. Do I went and picked it up today and she back in my yard. Gonna wash her next weekend, weather permitting and then vacation to OBX mid June.
