How is your extended warranty?

Friends looking into possibly getting an extended service warranty for our 2021 Jay Flight and wanted to hear from those who have an extended service warranty and have used it. Feedback both good and back if possible.

I'm trying to get as much info as possible before I call and talk to some of these companies offering extended warranties.

Anyone have a service plan that covers mobile mechanics?

Thanks for the feedback.

Personally i dont think they are worth a damn.. I had a 5 yr extended warrantyy on my 19 321 RSTS and the minute i needed it, i realized it is worthless. My entire roof came unglued at 27 months.. Although i had it in the dealer for bubbling at month 4 they said it was normal. Then when the whole thing went south the dealer told me the factory warranty expired and try my extended warranty. My extended warranty denied the claim, stating anything structural is not covered. When i bought the warranty, dealer said it was 'bumper to bumper'.. they lied! I ended up cashing in on the remaining warranty, getting $1,700 back which went to the material needed for my roof. which i did myself.. If you feel you need the warranty for an appliance or an AC unit repair, thats pretty much all that will be covered. I'll never waste a dime on an extended RV warranty..

Got one on our first trailer Had a problem and they denied it. So I had it fixed myself and then cancelled it and got my $1800.00 back. Never again.

Extended warranties are largely a waste of money for the purchaser and a profit for the seller, otherwise they wouldn't be promoting them.

I think you will hear stories on both sides of this issue. There are folks that have had them and have not receive any benefit from them, like those above, and then there are others that it has paid out more than they paid for it. I think a lot depends on you. Do you have the ability to take care of some of the issues that will come up, i.e., are you hand and a fixit type individual, or do you need help to change a light bulb? (Not intending to insult just trying to make a point.)

The other thing to consider is the company you buy from. Just like insurance companies you might get a good rate, but they will never pay out when you need them. That is where if you do purchase an extended warranty do a little bit of research. I'm sure there are companies out there that are more reputable than others you will just need to look for them. With that said I'm sure I will get some pretty good responses.

I bought an extended warranty on a car years ago and was upset because the weasel language hardly paid for even a covered claim.
But when I got my 14 Jeep I bought a Jeep warranty and over the 100 K I had some claims and was happy with the way it worked.
Modern cars and motor homes have a ton of high tech stuff that is expensive to repair.

Based on my experience I would not buy an aftermarket warranty but would closely look at a manufacturers warranty.
Last, tranny went out on the Jeep, $7,251 and I paid $100 deductible vs. cost of $1,800.

Kinda like gambling in casinos or day trading, nobody ever tells about how much they lost but only about how much they've convinced themselves they've won or come out ahead. Those huge ornate casinos didn't get that way 'cause they're in the habit of losing money to schmucks and ain't any of those extended warranty outfits spending millions on celebrity endorsements cause the game is tilted in favor of the purchaser.

Good post, and says it all. Extended warranties seem to be a thriving profitable business. For the companies. Most states regulate auto insurance to an extent. No one regulates warranty companies that I'm aware of.

Take the amount of the monthly payment that the extended warranty would cost and put it in a side account to pay for repairs.

You pay for the extended warranty for two years before it kicks in since the factory warranty is in effect. 24 months of deposits of $x.xx per month may be enough to cover unexpected repairs.

I think with a search using the search bar at the top of the page and some time with Google you will get some pretty thorough information and insight. This is a pretty common topic with some believers on both sides but if you follow Consumer Reports and the Dave Ramsey doctrine on extended warranty. The answer is forget it.

I have a 4 year extended warranty for my new to me 2011 pinnacle. So far it has paid to replace a central vacuum a a/c unit, a leaky faucet, a fault on a circuit board on the hot water heater and the front a/c are all in que for approval. I imagine the cost for these items is going to be close to $1.5k cost was $3k but I also have 3 more years to use it. Kinda praying for the other ac and the fridge to dump out I can’t say I know anyone that says buy it but I felt like 3k for 4 years on a 10 year old camper wasn’t the worst purchase. I guess if they deny the claim I’ll be back screaming.

When we bought our current sticks and bricks it came with a home warranty. I told my wife the first year we "lose" on the premium we will drop it. It's been eight years and we still have it. The only down side is the service companies they send are always looking to upsell. I've had them send me the covered amount and gotten my own installers a couple times.

For my Jayco, my vehicles, TVs, cell phones, etc. I'll self insure.

Our experience with an extended warranty... was A DISASTER!

We were in a brain stupor as we were purchasing our Seneca, and had the misfortune of assuming that an RV Extended warranty would be somewhat similar to an Automobile Extended warranty. The finance manager at CW was just like the slick-talking finance manager at the Ford/Chevy/Toyota/Lexus Dealer we had dealt with in years past... He promised that the Warranty would cover everything, bumper to bumper like our Lexus/Ford/Toyota/Chevy one did.... well - HE LIED!

Did we get our things fixed under the extended warranty??? Only if we paid the "freight" costs of getting the parts sent to Camping World(CW)... and then there were the "disposal fee's" and the other parts that were Pumps, Hardware, Caulk, Glue, and hoses. ... and once we picked up our beloved Seneca - we were left with 4-dead house batteries (they left the lights on inside the rig for over many weeks) a Toilet with a dried turd left in the bowl (since we winterized it right before taking it there (in September) and other random problems that came from having the rig left there for months waiting for the repairs...

My advice: Take the money you would pay for an extended warranty, Spend 20% on a set of tools that you can keep in the RV 100% of the time and put the rest into some savings account for the expenses that WILL come someday...

Mine came with a warranty for life, all you need to do is submit the form for a yearly roof inspection. Um, if that one is so good, why are you trying to sell me one for 2k+?

I converted mine to a lifetime warranty after the dealer failed me...

Thanks for the replies. Since my unit is a 2021 I'm going to hold off. The one quote I did get was from Good Sam for little over $500 a year for 5 years. I'm not worried about the small stuff I can fix some things. I'm basically worried about the AC, fridge and other big ticket items going out within a few years.

I've historically not been a big insurance guy in general. But the last truck I had was in the shop 12 times during the 3 years I owned it. For the first time ever I had bought the extended warranty that cost me $980 (in 2018). My total in repairs would have been north of $5K had I not had the extended warranty. They can sometimes be a big help but I get there's a reason they're in business.

It’s a gamble on insurance. I usually stay away but, I have had good luck with a car warranty. The way these RV’s have been coming out of the factory with all these issues I might be more inclined to buy one, but one with the correct coverage, from a reputable company that actually pays out! So do your homework and keep asking around like you are doing.

I hear ya. I'm going to set a little money aside each month for repairs as if I was paying for an extended warranty. In today's times it seems like things are built more cheap and with less reliable parts. I hear of stuff breaking or going out a lot more than I used to. My buddy had his 8 month old Jayco in the shop to have the AC replaced they had it for 5 weeks. He just got it back and the fridge went out. He is pi$$ed to say the least.

We purchased a JayFlight 38RLTS in 2014 along with a 5 year extended warranty. That was worth every penny and more. All the travel costs for tech's to come out and service the unit were covered. The few manufacturer's defects were completely covered and more. Albany RV was the dealer and they are more than courteous and accommodating for all our needs and fixes. Also, this is our fourth trailer and we love it!!
We have also purchased extended factory warranties for our cars and these also were were worth every penny. We keep our Toyotas much well past the original warranty periods and every single inevitable part, repair, and recall was covered. it is up to you to protect it before paying - Caveat emptor.
