How much do you pay at your state park?

So I booked spring break week at Oak Mountain State park here in Alabama. Rates have sure gone up over the past few years. Averaged almost $40 a night! We are mostly state park campers, even when we travel out of state. So it got me thinking. What do you pay at your favorite state park? Are their similar type campgrounds out there with hookups (not boondocking)? I've looked online at corps of engineer campgrounds, but never stayed at one. Any thoughts? I like full hookup options, but don't mind as long as I at least have electric. How do you do it?

I just checked my charge card statements. We arrived there at Oak Mt. SP last March 11, departed Mar 15 (2015). Total bill was $125; that's $31.25 daily.

And it rained nearly the whole time.

Texas the State Park averages $24 a night plus daily entrance fee but there is a Yearly pass that waves the entry fee.
We prefer the Corp camps if near where we want to be.With the " geezer " pass we pay half price so $14 to $16 a night average.

That's about what we paid last year too. We were there the following week. I asked when I made the reservation. She said the rates went up in November. I guess we should just be glad it's still open. Lol. Alabama threatened to close nearly all the state parks last year.

We do the same thing. We like the corps camps but we don't get the "geezer" discount. It's about $35 when we go there. State parks we also pay about $25 we the yearly pass (costs $60).

California average is $35 night, mostly no hookups. The better locations, or the few sites with hookups are much higher. Our favorite is ocean front with hookups - $65 night.

Michigan state parks range $22-35 for electric only, a few have full hookups for $55 a night. One of our favorites is right on the beach of Lake Michigan with a million dollar view just 200 feet from the water for $33 a night.

The state park a couple of miles away has been $15 with electric a night for years.
It went up last season to $23 a night.
When I first went there and found out how much they went up in price (50%), I asked where the new swimming pool is.
They looked at me like I had five heads
It's not a bad park but to go up that big a jump in price they should put that $ back into the campground... At least a little.
Poisin ivy all over some sites... Still after the price hike.
I guess the price is now more in line with the rest of the states.

We like staying at Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet, SC. I paid $413.00 for 10 nights last summer. This summer it's costing me $561.00 These are full service sites during the peak summer season. I know this sounds expensive - but these same 10 days would cost me about 850 - 900 dollars at one of the commercial campgrounds such as Ocean Lakes. I'll take my state park site any day of week vs their "packed like sardines" sites!

Ohio state parks

Here in Ohio, they started a few years ago a online system to reserve a spot. that costs $8 each time you book, the range for at least electric is 26 -38 per night. Only 10% of all parks have drop in, they push the reservation system.
We love state parks for the obvious in nature and the uncrowded feel to it.But we do have some private we like as well.

The SPs near us in Louisiana and south Mississippi run between $18-$24 w/hookups. All clean, well maintained and some with new restrooms, rebuilt since Katrina.

We stayed at Oak Mt last year for a few days last summer on the way back from Elkmont in the Smokies. We picked that park because of the size, location and activities available. I must say that after paying their higher than normal fee I was disappointed with the poor condition of the basic amenities. There was also several permanent campers staying in what appeared to be some of the nicer sites with junk building up around their rv's. Perhaps the powers that be should stop investing in perks like the BMX track, archery park and petting zoo and clean the bathrooms and replace the broken picnic tables.

I thought $25 for Arches National Park was high.

We like the semi rustic places also but will camp most anywhere. We tend to go to many places we like more frequently. Right now we are going to as many Georgia SP's as possible. We get the geezer discounts, some states give them to all and some just to state residents. Also there are some that have veteran discounts, etc.

COE parks are great and if have the Golden Age card even less.

You have to ask almost everywhere.

I just made a reservation at a Illinois state park. An electric only site was $25.00. Then there was a $5.00 booking fee plus I'm sure there will be a small entrance fee. I just also made a reservation at state park in NW Wisconsin. An electric only site was $18.00 plus the booking and entrance fees.
FYI, I booked a full hook up site for this August at the Niagara Falls KOA, it was $97.00 a night, the most I have ever, ever paid. It wasn't the most expensive either!

Va state parks range from $30.00 and up depending on what is at the parks. They have been going up for the last several years but few improvements are being made to the campgrounds. Will soon start to look at other options if they go up much more. One person on the board has said he wants state fees to be the same as private CG fees and it looks like he is getting his way. He owns a CG that is private with a lot of rules so few will camp there. Blames it all on public parks.
