How to level

Looking for a thread on how to properly level a trailer and nothing comes up

Super easy.


Step #1 Determine low side
Step #2A Place wood blocks, stackable plastic Lynx Levelers or any other type of device meant to support the weight of your trailer under low side tires until its level
Step #2B Dig out gravel or dirt under low side tires until its level
Step #3 Chock your trailer wheels and then disconnect from truck
Step #4 Level front to back with your tongue jack

We keep a level inside the RV. Before we unhitch my husband opens the door and puts the level in the center of the floor to level it side to side. He then uses the Lynx levelers if needed to drive up onto. He then chocks the wheels and unhitches. Then he uses the tongue jack to level front to back, again using the level (we turn it to face the door and I watch it while he lowers the jack).

Go to search and type in 3deg. 5deg.rule , it's important to level the refrigerator first before you place the levels on your trailer. I have a reply in this post for leveling.

So wait...you level...THEN unhook from the truck? How does that work? Because when I unhook from the truck, I'm raising the front of the travel trailer a bunch.

Level side to side first, chock wheels, then unhook from truck. After the truck is clear from the hitch you raise or lower the tongue jack to make it level front to back.

Guess I didn't word that correctly.
When sticking the levels on your trailer you should use the 3deg.5deg. rule and not do it by placing the level on the trailer floor for your permanent level guide. You level the refrigerator because it's best cooling is achieved within these limits. So now when you back up and level the trailer you'll know your frig. Is perfect.

To phrase it a bit differently:
1) use a level to determine whether the left or right side is low and by about how much (1/2 a bubble, bubble gone, etc.)
2) place blocks (composition, brand are users' choices) ahead of the low side tires.
3) drive the TT onto the blocks
4) recheck left-to-right level
5) if OK, go to step 7
6) if not level left-to-right, back off the blocks, adjust and go back to step 3.
7) set checks to keep the TT from rolling
8) disconnect from the tow
9) level front-to-back using the tongue jack
10) deploy stablizers
11) light fridge and set up the rest of the camp site
