Talking Hughes Power Watchdog 50amp Surge protector

Good morning All,

Thought I would share a lovely experience I had a few days ago....

I learned a very valuable lesson regarding a Toaster To give a quick backstory our furnace went out a few days ago so we are using a portable heater along with the fireplace for heat until we get the furnace repaired later this week. I have found that the only plug in that works the best for the heater is on the Island, then several hours later I decided I wanted some toast (bad mistake) so what do I do, I plugged in the toaster to the other plug in at the other end of the Island to make toast....instantaneously I blew every circuit ... TV, Micro, Frig, etc. and then it hit me...heater!!!! Several curse words were spoken and of course the DH was gone on errands.
So, I went into my POE (process of elimination) mode....checked the breakers first, none had tripped But I reset them all anyway....that didn't work! So after several minutes of racking my brain trying to figure out what happened, my quote came into my head "what the hell" then I remembered the "Watchdog" so I opened the app on my phone and low and behold the Watchdog shut down the trailer due to over amperage! So I hit the reset and instantly everything came back on....woo-hoo
The watchdog did it's job, we have only had it a few months and at first I didn't give it a thought but am now extremely impressed with this unit

Then the DH comes home and I share my experience and what does he say..."I knew you'd figure it out" LOL but was also thankful that he didn't have to find an electrical gremlin.

So, ladies and gentlemen...lesson of the day..DO NOT Plug a heater and a toaster in on the same circuit

Y'all have a great day!

Ro, another lesson is to be sure you have a reliable EMS product to protect your investment. Glad to hear you got it resolved and that was no damage!
