Humming Refrigerator

Quick question....On first trip with full hookups. The refrigerator started humming. Stopped for a while, then started again. It's rather annoying. Is this normal?

That's a new one on me. I would have to say it's not normal.

Well that's not what I wanted to hear. Nothing in owners manual about it.

It was on electric when it was humming. We left for a while, came back and now it is totally quiet. If I hear it again I'll turn it to gas and,see what happens.

And also you can open the outside cover and listen there while some one turns the switch to ON

Haven't heard it hum since this morning. Maybe it was still breaking in and getting used to electric?

Is it possible you are hearing the fan for the electric converter? Mine is under the fridge and the fan kicks on when you use more 12volt items (lights etc)...

No, it's definitely the refrigerator. I forgot to add that it doesn't humm all of the time. Only when it wants to

Just a guess, but when DW puts the kettle on the stove to make tea, it does make a weird nose when the metal is heating up and expanding. Maybe that's what's happening here...? I've never heard it before, but when ours is running on gas, I can hear the burner when I'm walking by, but I have to listen for it.

I know what you are talking about and that's not it. It is a humm like what's associated with an electrical motor. Anyway to the OP, I don't know if it's normal but I've had it since day 1. I travel about 5 months each year and have had no problems with it (other than the intermittent humm).

The upper fridge vent on my rig has a thermostatically controlled fan. If your rig has this fan you'd be able to see if by removing the lower vent and looking up toward the roof vent. Mine never did come on so I figured the thermostat was kapute. I jumped out the thermostat with a fuse and put in a switch to control it.

Ours refrig hums when it is running. Always has as have the others we had in the past. Not loud, but noticeable when its quiet. I actually hear it more on the outside than inside. Never worried about it since I have never had a refrig fail in the 38 years we have been camping. As long as it functions correctly (keeps beer cold,) I'd just have fun camping

Here's an interesting article on one guy's solution to the problem:
Replacing My Noisy Dometic DM2652 RV Fridge Fan

I hear a slight hum with my fridge too, but decided it was probably the cooling fan. Since my fridge is not situated on the curb (door) side of the trailer, I don't notice it from outside. And it is barely noticeable inside.

Kinda goes with the territory. And the only way to fix it is to do like the guy in the article - remove the fridge and change out the fan for a quieter model. But that's more work than I would want to go to - and I'd have to worry about warranty, should something else go wrong.

Just my take on it.

Moving the heat switch out of the slipstream was a no brainer. Wonder why that was installed that way? I have 2 on my rig and they hardly ever run but are noisy.
