Hurricane Florence precautions

Well here we are again, running from a September hurricane. We are camped in Summerton, SC and were planning to head to Augusta, GA but that's out now. We are headed back home to Charleston, SC to pick up my wife's parents from a Assisted Living facility as they are evacuating on Tuesday. We will likely have to flee with them in the rv when the storm track is finalized. We will just park in the yard until that happens or they call for an evacuation.

Hope it turns out to sea but if not be prepared in SC and NC cause it looks like its going to be a big one.

Best of luck to you. We are dealing with the remnants of Gordon this weekend here. Not fun at all.

Gordon just exited here and left 5.5'' of rain which we actually needed. Best of luck to those in the path of Florence.

Although it seems likely that Florence will go North of us, the unexpected can always happen, and there's two or three more lining up out there, so we're taking this as a reminder to review our storm prep.

Spending this weekend taking the usual precautions... Tying down, picking up and putting away, looking hard at surrounding trees for any fragile-looking limbs (we've lost two skylights that way...)

...and wishing, once again, that we had a nice big sturdy garage.

Oh, and checking over the propane and water suplies, just in case the TT becomes our new accommodation for a while, or our "bug-out-vehicle"

If you are impacted by Florence and Friends, please check in, once the noise has stopped, and let us know how you fared.

Good luck to all, and Happy Hunkering!

Good luck to you and your family. I'm hoping Florence will take that turn to the north and spare the east coast a bunch of grief. We dealt with Gordan last week, we were lucky here at the home place, barely got any rain. Please let us know how you make out.

[sigh] Florenceís projected path puts it almost atop our place south of Raleigh. Thatís almost identical to Franís path in Ď96, and I really donít want to do that again. My folks had four large pines drop across their house in Fran. We had 18 trees down at our previous house on 1.2 acres and I am still amazed not one fell across the house. My in-laws were without power for almost two weeks and my folks for ten days.

Weíve moved things into the garage and battened down the remainder. Trimmed the trees along my mother-in-lawís driveway so I can put the Greyhawk in her field, out of range of any falling trees. Our parking pad has too many large trees within reach.

Hoping it turns out to sea, but the models arenít indicating that.
