I Hate To Report on Mice

Tree fell and put a hole in the front of the trailer, just above the window. As soon as we found out we cut the branch off and duct taped over the hole as a temporary measure to keep the water out until we could fix it permanently.

Apparently, mice went in the hole before it was taped. They ate a hole thru the tape. I guess they went back in because the patched hole has another hole.

An inspection inside the trailer shows no sign of entry inside thru the interior paneling.

My first thought was to pour poison pellets in the hole and tape it up again. Repeat until there is no sign of coming out again. Then permanently patch the hole.

I fully realize that will leave dead ones between the wall panels and siding.

Any other ideas?

Yes, put steel wool covered with peppermint oil in the whole before taping.
Put peppermint oil on the outside of the tape as well. Rodents can’t stand the smell, nor do they like the steel wool. If they are already inside, then they will try and find another way out probably.

I have used the peppermint oil in the kitchen slide-out. It kept them from coming back into the kitchen slide-out through the water hose hole while I worked to purge them from the basement with traps and more peppermint oil infused rags. Finally caught one in a slot and lever type humane trap, and the other larger one with the TomCat bait. Haven’t seen any signs of them after a few weeks. I hated to have to use poison as to the down stream effects, but
could not get rid of the other one in the basement with just the peppermint stuff.

I would do the peppermint and leave the hole open a day then seal it to give the mice a chance to evacuate.

THAT's the issue. The easy way out is to chew thru the cheapie plywood that adorns the inside of the trailer. Then they will be inside.

My problem is that we are only there for a weekend every 2 weeks.

But, THAT looks like a plan. When I arrive Sat morning I'll spray, then seal it Sun night.

Thanks...
