I know the hazards but...

In Michigan, people are allowed to travel in a TT as long as there is two way communication available.
We are going camping Labor day weekend and the grand babies will be in TV with us. IF the kids car should "have issue" on the journey(3-4 hours), is it safe for them to sit on couch in the slide? (adult kids, not grandkids)

Will the slide be damaged from them bouncing on it on highway?

Please don't flame me/shame me, this is a worse case emergency plan.
I don't necessarily like the idea either, however... could they or are they best to stay at the dinette?

Yes, you will damage the slide.

My brother had his teenage son sleep on the sofa on the slide while traveling from NY to Ohio. His weight plus the bouncing resulted in a $2,800.00 repair bill.

Maybe they could ride in the bedroom.

Another thing to consider is that it is very very noisy inside the TT while its moving.

You might also want to consider that TTs don't have seat belts....

seatbelts. motorhomes dont have seatbelts in the back either. most of us grew up riding in truck beds with no seatbelts and somehow we survived.

Yep, and some of our compatriots that didn't take the proper precautions didn't survive. It's all about risks and benefits. Emergency rooms throughout the nation have people everyday lamenting how "I never thought this would happen to me"....

What “THE MEEKER“ said is right on the money. When the slide is in it sits a good 2” off the floor so what will happen is the floor will separate from the side walls and you can forget your vacation.

Search youtube for RV rollovers on the interstate. I can't believe you would even think about doing that. Name: rv roll over.jpg

Legal or not I would never allow anyone to ride in my trailer. First the unpredictable bounce would be very dangerous, second is the damage factor already mentioned and third have you seen what happens to these units when they are involved in even a minor accident? They virtually disintegrate so not even as a last ditch solution would I put anyone inside while in motion.

If there is a concern about the car involved, why not rent one for peace of mind?

Much better idea than having someone ride in a trailer....

If it's legal, and they understand the risk (and there is risk), then do it, but tell them to stay out of the slide.

I understand the risk, and I wouldn't do it.

I always told people at work. "It's not a problem until it becomes a problem. Then it's a big problem."

In other words: It's a lot easier, cheaper, safer to prevent a situation ahead of time, rather than trying to fix it afterwards.

We never put our animals in the trailer while traveling, just too dangerous. Most RV's are held together with staples and screws that are too short and have absolutely no crash protection whatsoever. Just because it's "Legal" in your state doesn't preclude using basic common sense!

I'm with the majority on this one. While it may be "legal", it's definitely not safe. Even in an emergency.

And I don't know how your slide is constructed, but if it's anything like the one in my BHBE, you would definitely do damage to the slide if you travel in it. There was NO support under that slide room with the slide in. There was a risk of causing damage sitting in it when parked, let alone bouncing down the road.

If something were to happen to their vehicle, I would make arrangements to rent a vehicle for them to drive. Or if the risk of breakdown is significant enough, just rent one at the outset and don't worry about it.

If you know there is a hazard and do it anyway how will you feel if something does happen to even one of your grandchildren? Especially after you asked and several have advised against it. Why take the chance when there are alternatives that are way safer? It is up to you so be sure to be ready for the consequences if iy goes wrong.

This is a 23B. Yes you can sit on the slide out j-sofa when it is in. We tow with heavy stuff on our sofa all the time. A person or stuff the slideout does not know the difference

We move ours with people or stuff on it regularly too.

We use ours when it's in and we just have to be cautious to not step on the outside edge where it is not supported.

We still do not travel with anything living in the rig when underway.

I remember the 45 mile (one way) trips to an from the beach in the back of a truck. Then when we got home we might even drink out of the garden hose as we washed the salt water off the truck Ahhh the memories
