I need a winter getaway!

After a year of health issues, I need a camping getaway! Please give a winter favorite camping site where there is not snow and the pipes don't freeze. I live in sunny (not so warm today) Florida.

That's going to be tough at the last minute. Our favorite FL campground (that we've been to) is Top Sail SP in Santa Rosa Beach. Maybe you can find a cancelation??

I know.... I live in a prime spot where all the winter snowbird visitors come for the winter! I am sure it is wishful thinking on my part. My husband suggested camping in our backyard - lake view and full hookup. LOL I am going to check into Top Sail. It has been on the list. May not work now but after the season.

This past February the bride and I went to Tucson and thoroughly enjoyed it. We stayed in Lazy Days RV Park, not inexpensive but very nice. There are fruit trees between each camp site and visitors are welcome to pick, we had fresh lemon to go with our salmon. Most of the folks seemed to be seasonal. I seem to recall we stayed 10-ish days.

I will say that I have a buddy that camps there frequently for a week or so at a visit. He checks the website multiple times daily for cancelations. Sometime he has to move 1 or more times while he's there...that's how much he likes Top Sail.

I fully understand! I've been under the knife way to many times this year. I just wish I could go somewhere like the Bahamas!

I'm way to gar north to give you any recommendations!

Happy Camping

Hopefully 2018 will bring a year of good health and lots of camping fun! However, the Bahamas sounds like a good plan B!

And I am way to far West, we are heading out to Yuma, AZ boondocking with friends for a few weeks after the holidays. Take the toys and play in the desert, cook good food, drink some adult beverages, and generally have a good time. Quartzsite is also a great place as they have a huge RV rally in Feb. Jan gets no rain and the avg temps are 72/50

Even in Orlando, FL it's hard to find a place. We're going down there for 10 nights. My Alma Mater is on the Camping World Bowl the 28th of Dec. We're meeting some friends at KOA Orange Blossom in Apopka for one night, which was no problem getting a reservation almost 2 weeks ago. Will be at the football stadium for 2 nights in the RV parking lot, which was no problem.

Once in Orlando, we will always spend an extra week so my wife can visit her 95 year old mother and her sister. The campground we've stayed at a number of times, KOA Lake Whipplewill over near the airport didn't have any sites open for a week between 12/29 and 1/4. I tried some other places and they were all full.

Finally, I called the campground direct to see if there had been a cancellation. Turns out they had one site open from 12/29 to 1/1, and another site open from 1/2 thru 1/4. It means I'll have to move in the middle of my stay. Shouldn't be too hard. I'll just hook up electricity so will just have to detach the electrical cable, and drop the trailer on the hitch. Will not hook up the WHD system, and make sure nothing can fall inside the trailer.

I love Highlands Hammock! It is 5 miles from our house. We like to go to Lake Arbuckle Park and Campground in Frostproof and take the boat too. For close trips we also like Camp Mack and River Ranch but all are usually full this time of year. I do need to check for cancellations. Thanks!

Thank you everyone for all the great suggestions! Maybe AZ will be in the plan for 2018! We did a cross county back in 2010 and I had a great time in AZ. I love all the close to home suggestions in Florida and will check them out. Sometimes we don't appreciate what we have right in front of us! If any of you are staying or passing through Sebring, give a shout out! Or if you need suggestions for the area, it will be my pleasure to answer!

Sounds to me like the best time to go camping, likr maybe 2 - 3 states southward where it's a tick warmer?

Our neighbor has a second home in Bozeman. We spent a snowy New Years there 7 years ago. We found a great little park on the river near Livingston that is on our list. We went skiing at Bridger Bowl and actually sat next to Dennis Quaid at lunch. It was a fun trip and I am looking forward to going again only this time in the summer! This Florida gal's blood is tad bit thin!

Bozeman is gorgeous and a great place to live my daughter and her family live in one of the only 10 homes allowed at Bridger Bowl so all they do is ski out there front door down a trail and onto a lift. Only problem here winters a long!!! But great camping in the summer and fall and we got lots of great places to boondock....

You might find this site useful:

Thank you! That is perfect for impromptu getaways! Do you have any favorite spots in Florida that you have found?
