Congrats Shorty! I turn 60 in a few days but have been writing the rough draft for about a year now. Our plan includes selling the stick n bricks and with the market a bit hot right now, temptation might just push us over the edge in the spring. Seeing all these responses have me thinking I best get going before all the good campsites are taken

I'm 30 days from my last day to have to show up. My last compensated day is November 1. I've made my own money since before I was 10 and I have to admit I have a bit of trepidation about all of this. I hate boredom but I have so many interests. I guess it's just such a drastic change... Our finances are in order. Our Medicare and supplemental are signed up and will start when we need them. I'm not sure what bugs me about this but I still have that little worry worm squirming in the back of my thoughts... It's the same worm that was turning when I got my first paper route... 55 years ago... whispering... "Can I really do this?" Oh well... damn the torpedoes... full speed ahead!

Thanks to all for your support and encouragement. I'm so looking forward to the new adventure but time is dragging. It has only been three days, come on 9-30-16.

9-30-16--5pm. The time and date I've been waiting on for 51 years. I worked at the first actual job that required a SSN number way back in 1965. 51 years later, I worked at my last job!!! Saturdays start tomorrow.

Congratulations Shorty! Wow, 51 years? In my head, 1965 doesn't seem that long ago. Have fun and enjoy your never ending weekend!

I was going into the USMC about that time 51 years ago! YOu have made it Shorty and enjoy every minute of it. I retired 11 years ago this November and have never looked back. Sold the big house in Florida, bought a smaller house in Georgia, paid everything off and put money in the bank. Hit it at just the right time. Spent the last week in Branson, and on the way home tomorrow. Loading up the 5th wheeler and headed to Hiawassee, GA for 10 days on Tuesday. Going to the Georiga Mountain FAll Festival. Come on down!

It really doesn't seem that long ago. I was 9 in '65 and mowing lawns for $5 each. Made $60 in one summer and thought I was rich! My parents let me buy a new Schwinn 5-speed bike with the banana seat with the money. Congrats again Shorty and I'll be joining you in 730 days.

Hey Shorty!

On Sunday night, set your alarm to get up like you are going to work and when it goes off Monday morning, throw it out the window and go back to sleep.

Congrats!

Murff, I will have to set the alarm Monday. Kitty has five more working days then she RETIRES, Oct 7th.

Thanks to all that have responded. It is the beginning of a new adventure for Kitty and me. Maybe we can stand each other for 24/7 for the first time in 47 years.

I hate you all!

I have 10 years 7 months and 20 days left until I am eligible for full retirement... Of course I will only be 46 when I am eligible!!!

Hope you all enjoy your retirements! Travel and enjoy yourselves. I'm looking forward to the first long camping trip where we just go to a destination and stay until we are bored and then move to the next destination!

My bride is a nurse, so we are hoping that she can get a job as a traveling nurse when I retire to help fund our trips for a while. They pay a good salary, they pay relocation fees (that should offset our fuel and food budget) they paying housing stipends (we can actually make money on that deal) and she only has to put in 3 months of work per location. The plan is 3 months of work and a month or 2 of leisure and travel, then 3 months of work and a month or 2 of leisure and travel and do that until we get bored! I would either volunteer to camp host or get a part time job wherever we land or volunteer somewhere to kill time while she is working.

Ahh... looking forward to that!

What Day Is It?

After a short bit in the military and the last 28 years in law enforcement I pulled the j.o.b. plug too!

I'm really tired and retired. I called my boss and told him I was taking a few sick days, then I called him and told him I wasn't coming back!

The decision was like the decision to have kids if you think you can afford it you can't so don't wait. Three guys that retired with me have already died from cancer, I'm 53 and have been retired two years.

And I agree, I retired almost three years ago and love it but I find myself more busier than when I was working.

Congrats Shorty!
The DW has 11 months and I have 34. That's what I get for picking an older woman all those years ago.

We wish you well, and happy trails
