I would have thought Jayco had learned their lesson about propane regulators

Okay not exactly the regulator... but this is on a 2022 242BHSW. I just put a new tank on (first time changing it since the dealer filled them in September.) Turned it on, went inside and did a few things, came back out and could hear a lot of propane leaking. I'd guess I lost about 10 to 15 lbs in 5 minutes.

Just glad it happened in the driveway and while I was around...

Yup, pretty much disintegrated in my hand once it had thawed out and I disconnected it. Didn't notice any cracking when I connected it. Have had this happen on very old hoses (UV damage), it's quite a surprise for me having it happen on a brand new one, especially with so much attention on these regulators over the last couple of years.

Looked brand new when I disconnected it, though can't say I scrutinized it. Put the cover back on and was gone about an hour to get my tank filled.

What part are you saying looks like previous damage?

That's a lot of cracks! Possibly chipped at small yellow circle? Hard to see.
Dropped, crushed, pinched, thrown, who knows what happens during shipping and assembly. Probably a better grade of plastic should be used, guessing country of origin is China...

ARoamer, could be, will have to take a closer look! I'd expect them to be some kind of softer plastic so they wouldn't crack like that if they're abused a bit, but I'm no engineer.

The China stuff is just made from the recycle garbage we send over there, they just ship the garbage back as rv parts….

I've never seen one split like that before. This is probably a stretch, but did you have any freezing temperatures up there lately? If so, I wonder if some water made its way into the threads, froze, and split the nut. Just thinking out loud.

... glad you found it the way you did; it could have caused a fire or explosion. There's a message there for the rest of us. I'm going to do a closer inspection on mine.

It's been getting close to freezing lately, I don't think it's actually gone below. If that had been the case though, I think it would have come apart when I disconnected the tank or reconnected it, not a little bit later.

It could have weakened the nut, though even that's scary as freezing temperatures and moisture are definitely expected under normal use for a propane line.

Edit: Thinking about it more, the acme nut doesn't create a seal, so even if there was water in the threads, freezing shouldn't affect it.

That regulator looks like the ones that have been recalled...??
I would change that also, or think about it...I was finally able to find
one of the MEC MEGR-253's and the MEC 15" hoses that go with it...
easy swap out and much better hoses and connections.

If the hose is not seated and sealed at the tank, it could put stress on the ACME nut connection and cause that. Several times mine was not seated and I hear a "pop" as I tightened the outer nut when it straightened it self out.

I have been careful to push the hose in until it is seated before completely tightening the outer nut.

It looks like it was previously cracked.

It’s not one of the recalled ones, but it definitely looks similar, and that was one of the first things I checked!

How can you tell the difference between one that was previously cracked, and one that cracked under pressure?

Either way, if it was, that means either the dealer or the Jayco factory cracked it. Both not good.

It was for sure seated before tightening. I am thinking this is just one of those QC oversights. Surprising that they aren’t putting their propane systems under more scrutiny given the recent history.

No question in my mind, you should report this as a complaint. IT seems the recall may need to be widened to include your model.

https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#index

This absolutely could have been disastrous, if not explosive.
