Ignitor 'Spark' knob not lighting stove

We have a 2003 Jayco Feather 23B. It has a stove with three burners. Since we bought it, we've had no problem getting the stove to light using the 'Spark' knob. Of course we first get the air out of the lines, turn the burner to 'Lite', and then turn the Spark knob until it lights. This last trip, though, it wasn't lighting. You could see a small spark at each burner but none of them would light. Gas is definitely coming out and we eventually just grabbed our BBQ lighter and lit it that way, but I'm curious why the 'Spark' knob would just stop working. Anyone run into this before? I'm guessing there's a contact that's dirty or something out of alignment somewhere, but before I started taking things apart, I figured I'd ask here as I'm guessing someone has had to have had this problem at some point.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe this will help....(Wikipedia)

"Piezo ignition is a type of ignition that is used in portable camping stoves, gas grills and some lighters, and potato guns. It consists of a small, spring-loaded hammer which, when a button is pressed, hits a crystal of PZT or quartz crystal. Quartz is piezoelectric, which means that it creates a voltage when deformed. This sudden forceful deformation produces a high voltage and subsequent electrical discharge, which ignites the gas.

No external electric connection is required, though wires are sometimes used to locate the sparking location away from the crystal itself. Piezo ignition systems can be operated by either a lever, push-button or built into the control knob. Only one electric spark is generated per turn of the knob or press of the button.

Lighters with piezo-electric ignition typically do not work or have great difficulty at high altitude, if the striking mechanism is improperly aligned. They are unsuitable for mountaineering or other high altitude applications. The higher the altitude, the less likely a lighter with piezo-electric ignition is to work."

Last thought (my own).....is it possible your type has a replaceable DC Battery or faulty ignition board? If your unit had a rapid spark....it probably is voltage controlled.

I have experienced a few problems over the years. A couple of thoughts:

1. Make sure there is no air or drafts from a fan or ac causing abnormal air flow.
2. I have had problems trying to light with a pot over the burner at times.
3. The ignitor can get slightly moved when cleaning the burner top, doesn't take much.

If you see the spark and none of these help, keep the BBQ sparky handy.

Just keep a BBQ lighter handy as my experience is that the spark lighters are problematic at best. Handy when they work, but no biggie when they don't. You can even use an empty BBQ lighter that has used up all its fuel as the spark at the end of the wand will light the burner. We keep one hanging on a wall hook near the stove.
