I'm New and my Jayco was already stolen!

Hello,
Glad to have found the forum. I am a first time Jayco owner. I just purchased a 2018 Jay Flight 24rbs. I have owned other RV’s (Holiday Rambler 5th Wheel, Winnebago Class A). I’ve been away from the RV lifestyle for about 10 years. Glad to be back. Did lots of research and settled on what I believe is a great unit. I haven’t even transferred the registration yet and my camper has already been stolen! Some Jack Hat busted open about 5 storage units and tossed everything into my camper. Then he/she hooked up the camper and drove up the road about 5 miles to a grocery parking lot. I guess they picked what they wanted from the stuff and abandoned the rest/my camper. Got some issues to talk to insurance about – entry door all pried open etc… Probably $2k or more in damages. Unfortunately, my camper was not behind the secure gated area (no more space). I was in the process of getting a boot and/or hitch lock but the thief beat me with the theft! Ugh. Secured area parking now! Thanks for the welcome. Look forward to learning from you all. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Tom

Welcome aboard!

I hate thieves. They do a lot of damage and cause a lot of headaches for everyone.

FYI, secured lots don't stop thrives either. Make sure to have few layers of protection. This makes you look less desirable, so they want to move onto the next guy.

I've had both, doesn't matter, although mine weren't stolen, just broken in to.
Good luck....

This suuuuuucks! What kind of lock are you looking at? I got this for mine and it’s a tank

AMPLOCK U-TLS2516I RV Trailer... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015HFGE4S...p_mob_ap_share

Make sure you look at your coupler type. I bought the wrong one first, then realized Jayco used an inverted set up, not sure if I am saying that right.

Thanks for the link. I've had 2 different locks sent and neither worked. I got the one you linked. Hope the 3rd time is a charm thing. Happy new year!

Welcome, See if the store has cameras. The police might know the truck they were driving. I hope insurance takes care of everything for you

I'm buying one of these to stop someone from hooking up. The chains can also be placed inside of it. Won't stop someone from busting open a door or window, but they can't leave with it. This guy has tested quite a many hitch locks on his YouTube channel; most could be forced open faster than you can blink.

Yes, that is what I got.

Hello and thanks for the link to that video. I watched it. I ordered that lock a couple of days ago after watching. It delivered today. This is the 4th hitch lock I bought. Returned the other 3. They not fit. I believe this one I got is exactly what I need after emailing the company proven locks, with pictures of my hitch.

Thanks again for your reply.

Our previous 5ver was broken into 3 times in a secured storage area. The 1st time, they broke out the window in the door and some very skinny person climbed through - about $5,000 worth of damage & items stolen. Someone sliced themself up & left blood. The 2nd time they broke out a dual pane window in the rear of the unit - about $3,000 work of damage & items stolen/destroyed. We found the break-in & reported it to the police. The 3rd time, they pried open the door. The insurance company told the storage lot they wanted to be involved with the police & charges.

We have this on our unit https://www.amazon.com/Camco-Eaz-Lif...115917&sr=8-22. We have a friend who is a locksmith & he recommended a lock that can't be cut.

Hate that you had this happen,, but glad you got your unit back.

A while ago we have a 35’ Jayco TT stolen from the storage lot. The thief came in, disassembles the Hensley Arrow in about 5 minutes and threw it in has truck, hooked up and drove off. Never to be seen again..

The stinger for the hitch was in the cargo compartment, but doubt he knew how to use it anyway. I didn’t have a hitch lock due to the Arrow, but I guess it wasn’t a big enough deterrent.

I keep a pin lock on my 5th wheel now, but understand all you are really doing is making your unit a bigger pain for the thief than the other rigs. Simone set on grabbing your camper can & will if they really want it.

I hate thieves.

Good post and true. Someone who wants it bad enough, they WILL get it.
I hate thieves as much as you. All a dedicated thief needs is a cheap battery operated cut off tool or a very small oxy-acetylene torch. Both are readily available.

I lock my hitch, but also buy insurance, which isn't real cheap either. The realty is, if the thieves really want it, they will get it.
