Increasing WIFI reception range.

Are you looking to broadcast a better signal or receive a better signal?
If you are looking to broadcast a better signal then get something like this. You remove one of the antennas from your router and install this thing in its place. It's as simple as unscrew and then screw, kind of like a TV coax cable. It will broadcast your wifi in a straight line instead of a radius. I use both products on different machines in different buildings and they both work really well. The pricing on each item seems a bit steep but I'm on my phone and its not as easy to search for better prices.

I say it will work fine for a laptop. See if they have a return policy and try it when it arrives.
I personally would use a repeater. I mostly use a tablet now.

It takes up 2 USB ports so it would not be feasible for me with 3 total. I have used external devices with sucess but not this one.

I have a Wilson Sleek cellphone booster that I use to boost the signal to and from my WiFi card or my cell phone. I have no signal without using the Sleek. When I use the Sleek I usually have 2 bars of signal.

We do it a little different perhaps. I wanted to create a WIFI HOTSPOT so that more of my devices would work around the RV trailer at the same time.
We went with the VERIZON MIFI 2200 3G service unit some years back and it does this just fine. It allows five separate WIFI enabled devices to run at the same time. I use my big DELL M90 Laptop, wife uses her HP 11-inch laptop, our tablets. smart phones etc all pick-up WIFI coming from the unit. I just feel alot safer using my own generated WIFI signals when using the internet for keeping in touch with family and friends and paying bills etc...
The MIFI unit runs from a four hour internal rechargeable battery or can be plugged into 120VAC using the included transformer adapter.
To increase the range of the MIFI we use this WILSON SLEEK CRADLE to sit the MIFI unit in when inside the trailer. The Sleek has an outside antenna. The MIFI unit being as small as it it we like to carry it with with like if we are sitting out on the beach in our chairs... Makes all of our WIFI devices work anywhere Verizon CELL PHONES work. Using this MIFI unit we don't have to depend picking up someone elses WIFI signal. About the only time we like to use someone elses WIFI signal is when we are down streaming TV channels...

I am currently looking at this option for a trip out West.
Vorizon has 3gb/month for $59.99, ATT has 5gb for $49.99/month.
Do you think ATT has improved since you last compared them to Vorizon?
