Insert Trim screw cover keeps blowing off on road

Hello, the Insert Trim screw cover on the front of my trailer keeps coming off and flapping in the wind. It normally happens on hot and windy days when i believe the rubber is getting hot and soft then the wind or a gust from an on coming semi truck blows it out. Does anyone have any tips on keeping this from happening or is there a better product out there to replace the flimsy seal?

Remove the bottom screw holding it in and stretch it tighter.

You can buy a replacement roll of the stuff for not much $. It tends to harden and I think shrink over time (and heat).

Or a little dab of clear silicone in the channels every couple of feet. It won't take much to keep it in place.

thicker trim

Thanks for the responses everyone! I found this thicker stuff on Amazon, and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on replacing the thin stock stuff with this. the channel opening on my trailer is 5/8". this seems like it would work but not sure. if not i guess i'll have to pull it a little tighter and tack it down slightly as suggested.

Pulling it tighter will not fix it, IMHO.

Shrinking it is better then stretching it.

Allow it to find the correct length in cold weather, then seal the end to keep it in position.

We had one piece on ours that had issues, and a little silicone has held it in place.

Worked for me for over 40 yrs on our TT's. You pull it tighter and cut off the excess, just don't over do it.

The exact same thing happened to me the other day on my way back from Glacier. We were in 102 degree weather and doing 65mph when mine came out. I stretched mine and made it back to Houston without it happening again. I’m gonna follow this thread closely 👍🏻

I ordered that thicker seal from my link above, I'll report back when i get it in and see how/if it works better than the original. If not i'll send it back and just stretch the original tighter.

New seal is so much better!

Managed to get around to replacing with the new gasket material and it was well worth it. The new gasket is so much more thicker and substantial than the original. It almost "snaps" in to place and makes a much tighter seal. I think pulling it taught would also keep it from blowing out again but i really like the quality of the new one.
