Inspector For Used TT Purchase - Upstate NY

Hi All,

I have located a 2013, 29ft TT (no slides) that I want to buy for approx $9k, it is located near my mom's home in upstate NY, but it is about a 4 hour drive from where I live.

Does anyone know of any qualified inspectors for hire near the Syracuse, NY area? If so please pass along their info. Looking to have this done ASAP.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Try Googling for a RV Tech in the area that you can contact.

Try calling NRVIA (National RV Inspector Assoc) I did not see an inspector in Upstate NY but I would call them anyway.(855)472-9948

Maybe someone here who has a vast knowledge of RV expertise could help you out.

I think JFlightRisk is in that neck of the woods and could possibly help you out. I heard he is a nice guy and would charge a nominal fee, like a case of his favorite brew.

I'm about 70 miles west of Syracuse. You can send me a PM where the trailer is located. I'll help out if I can.

Hey Thanks a lot all, this deal did not materialize unfortunately since I was too slow . But I am heavy on the hunt in that area so JFlightRisk I thank you and will let you know if I find something nearby. And Meeker thank you for the referral!

HOWEVER, I did get ahold of an inspector with NRVIA and a full 5 hour inspection was going to run me about five big ones (and double that with a mileage fee). After I picked myself off the floor I wondered - do I really need to do this for an $8-$9k TT? I mean this isn't a $100k+ Airstream for goodness sake!

Could others who've bought TTs from private sellers in this price range let me know if they used their own eyes & nose poking around for hints of water damage/leaks/smells/etc, rather that going an inspection route? Is there any difference between looking at private sellers vs dealerships, since i assume dealerships inspect the TT before selling (as I type that I can see the cynical side of me smirking at me and saying "surrrre they do")

Thanks all!

That's the going rate. Don't forget he needs to carry Liability and Workman's Comp insurance along with whatever fees NRVIA charges him.

I agree with that. I am not hating on inspectors in any way, I know they provide an excellent service and they are experts who also have overhead.

I'm just wondering if that level of $$ makes sense in a cost/benefit way when applied to a low-end TT ("maybe") rather than a very expensive RV ("of course").

As always, appreciate the input!
