It finally happened...

...DW had to drive the rig today. Unfortunately it took me getting sick for it to happen, but happen it did.

I've been trying to get her to drive for almost four years now, but she didn't even want to drive the TV because it's so big, let alone with the rig in tow.

She was super nervous, but overall she did a great job, especially considering she had to navigate the Bourne rotary and bridge - those of you familiar with Cape Cod know what I'm talking about.

I already told her, next time out she drives again as practice makes perfect.

Sorry to hear you got sick, but congrats to your DW for a great job driving. Cape Cod in the summer is horrendous, holiday or not!!

Been trying to get my wife to drive as well. Maybe I need to catch a stomach bug [emoji23]

Glad it went well for her first time towing.

Well thank God all went well for you guys. That's a rough trial by fire for your bride but she made it thru successfully. Way to go Kelly!

Happy RVing,

It's a comfort to know that she can do it and it gives you a break even if not sick.
My wife loves to drive. She drove our MH and she has towed every one of our 3 fifth wheels.

I have asked my wife for 8 years now. I asked her "what if I got sick?". She replied: "I will take a Taxi" ....

I'm in the same boat...DW won't even consider driving the TV when pulling the TT. I did get her to pull the TV when I launched our boat into the water but she had a straight drive to the parking spot and an empty boat trailer. She gets nervous when I bring it up and feels bad but she wont drive it.

Good for her, and lucky you! We just went over the Bourne last week going in and the Sagamore going out. That Bourne is definitely tight towing. Planning on getting back there at the end of summer; maybe the line at Moby Dick's will be shorter! Feel better.

We didn't start camping until I got hurt in a work accident and became disabled. I am limited to only driving locally so my wife does all the TV driving. When we bought our first camper we went about 40 miles to look at it and tow it home. It was the first time she had ever driven a truck towing something. She drives everywheres now towing our camper.

I guess I am pretty fortunate. My DW has towed the TT to and from the dealer several times for minor work (about a 30 minute drive each way on a 2 lane road with no shoulders in 25 mph crosswind) and into the city to have a new hitch installed. On our upcoming long trip, she has asked to drive to break up the hours behind the wheel. Think I'll keep her.

Me too! We usually switch off every 100 miles or so just to stay alert. I can even take a nap when she is driving!

Stopping every 10 miles must make for a long day. Personally, I need more than 10 minute naps.

Long story short: My DW towed for the first time through the middle of St. Louis, in the rain, after sunset, during rush hour! After that experience, she has had no fear of towing.

Actually its like every other rest stop!

Glad to know someone reads my post and points out the errors. Fixed it.

We are headed out to a big fireworks show locally.

I wish I could get my DW to drive. When I ask her what she'll do if I get sick and can't drive, she says she'll call one of our kids to come get us. (They have their own TTs so they are experienced).

My wife towed our boat through Atlanta headed to Florida the 1st time she towed. She was fearless. Haven't gotten her to tow the TT yet, but I am sure she could if need be.
She always says she's fine going forward, but doesn't like pulling into gas stations or backing up.
