RVing in cold advice needed. Yeah, we are in Texas and don’t really know what cold is. But we are currently in an RV Park in central Texas. Forecast is to be in the mid 20’s tonight. What preparations should we make? We are in a jayco octain toy hauler. To the best of our knowledge, our holding tanks are not heated nor is our outside water hose. Am I safe just to fill my fresh water holding tank and disconnect outside hose or do I need to put antifreeze in holding tank to? I know most of you think in the 20s is nothing but we have never been in this kind of cold in an RV before - spoiled Texans.

If the day time temps get back above freezing you should be OK if you have an enclosed underbelly.

I would put water in the tank, disconnect the hose and the sewer hose.

I wonder, has anyone experienced a tank or pipe rupturing, from the expansion of ice in a cold spell?

If the daytime highs are above freezing you should be fine. Add water to the fw tank. Disconnect the sewer if you have a full hookup site. Disconnect the fw hose, and drain. We also leave all the cabinets ajar, that have water pipes in them, to allow a little extra heat into them.

We do not have an enclosed underbelly and camp with the low temps in the mid to low 20's without issue.

It's so cold the ice is 5'' thick on our 3 acre pond. It's been 4 years since I've been able to ice fish. Now if it could warm up a little bit so I can actually get out there for an extended period of time. I don't like the cold but since I can't do anything about it, might as well have some fun.

-28 degrees this morning in western ND. The wind chill was supposed to be -50.

I'm ready for Spring. And campfires.

When I was in SoCal for Christmas, it was cold enough to freeze the fur off a frog.

Glad we live in San Diego. Never had to winterize a trailer in 30 years, but if I ever had to, this forum would be read extensively and then I'd have a dealer do it.

that gets very expensive and since we don't rush we probably do a more thorough job.

We winterize twice at least each season and unwinterize twice. We go to Florida for a month but return for the remainder of the winter. It takes less time to winterize than to drive to the RV maintenance facility.

It costs us less than five bucks each time.

It is so cold, my cows could not drink from the pond, so I took an axe and went out to chop a hole in the ice. In doing so, I noticed and large bass frozen in the ice. I proceeded to chop the fish out. Then noticed another, then another, before long I had chopped the pond dry!
