Jayco Factory Oversight??

I've noticed on some 2021 Eagles, Jay Flights, Jay Feathers, etc., that the metal gutter rails and rear wall/roof metal trim the mounting screws 'appear' to be exposed and not covered by the vinyl insert cover

The following photos (screen shots) are of 2021 Jayco TT's presently on-sight at a local RV dealership:

2021 Eagle TT:

2021 Jay Flight TT:

I hope they aren't using the metal trim that doesn't utilize the vinyl covers and leaving the screw heads exposed (?).

Well now, that's an interesting find you have there. I doubt it's an oversight. With Thor owning the company I bet the bean counters justified saving his job by making this call to save the company money for their new acquisition. Lol!

Makes you wonder what else they “Forgot”.

Years ago I worked for a successful computer company that made computer memories. Their product was superior and had little competition. Then the owners sold out to a fly by night company. There were days when the bean counters would come up to me and ask “what happens if you took that part out?” They basically destroyed the product in trying to reduce the cost of production while maintaining, and even raising the price. I quit, and less than a year later they were out of business.

Shows they really don't care about quality and the customer. By time the leak does cause damage the warranty is up, at least they hope it's up.

I don't care for the looks, but actually it could reduce leaks since you'll see any screws that back out much faster.

I think the trim on the Eagle looks unfinished. But, I would be more concerned with the type and quality of the sealant that is put under the trim piece than the decorative trim cover that they put on top. Makes it look good but really does nothing to keep water out, especially on a horizontal surface.

The style of metal trim that Jayco uses frequently at front cap/roof joints doesn't accommodate a vinyl cover...., but Jayco does apply Dicor over the metal trim thus covering the screw heads.

I agree........, Jayco uses Butyl Putty tape behind the metal trim/joint pieces and when applied properly seals/holds up well.

I've replaced Jayco factory rubber/foam gasket window seals with Butyl putty tape..., IMO creates a higher quality, longer lasting seal.

I realize that, but how easily replaceable are they, and are they properly sealed from water intrusion? Looks like a one and done type of product.

I don't think the plastic inserts that they typically use does anything to protect the screws or hinder water intrusion. It's just cosmetic. We're probably better off without it. If the screws are properly bedded, you don't need it.
